Offering One Way Links for Your Comments

Corey, I haven't looked personally but if the links are in fact nofollow you should definitely make that clear when posting something like this in an affiliate forum. I think most would assume from your post that they are do follows.

With that being said, I understand people get the possible traffic benefit by doing this. I think many would be inclined to help you and do this whether or not the links were no follow if you would have just said that from the beginning.

This is true. These are no follow links, this is something I should have mentioned in the initial post.

However, a link is also a link that can provide traffic to your web site for as little as 1 minute or less of writing and clicking.

This was definitely misleading. Every blog in the world offers one way links for comments. You were implying a special benefit here. i.i., nofollowed one way links.

rel="nofollow" is commonly used on blog comments to prevent the abuse of comment spam.

Yeah, I know what nofollow is, and what it's used for. I wanted to know what SmackDog's specific aims were in implementing the nofollow links in this case. Is he trying to hoard (preserve) PageRank? Is he trying to discourage spammers? Is he worried that dofollow links in the comments are going to cause his site to get penalized somehow?

I don't mean to derail the thread. I'm mostly just curious about the thought process behind his decision to nofollow those links.

I was not trying to purposefully put noFollow tags in the comments section. In fact I didn't know this was a WP default until today.

So, I did a little research and found a plugin that removes this noFollow feature from the comments section.

Now all the links that people have left via comments on the site are dofollow! woohoo!

Now everyone gets a free 1 way link for leaving a comment. Even those who have done so already.

Thanks to all who have brought this to my attention and somewhat forced me to research this further. Now everyone is happy!
