Hey Laurence, I was 1/2 way between Cancun and Playa del Carmen...love that area. Where are you at now? I do want to take another trip this year, but maybe try the Dominican this time. Have you been there?

Thanks Kev!

Very cool article TheDonk, nice job on the newfound motivation. Where did you go in Mexico? I live there at the moment, probably will be moving around some more soon though. Let me know when you're around next time.

Tell us how you really feel :) How many four-letter words did you have to edit before submitting?

But seriously, I think you've made some good points. I think most of us are "idea people", and it's easy to get lost reading everyone's opinions on how to make money.

Life Cycle of a Poker Affiliate
Month 1: I read on superblogger's awesome blog that I need to write my own information product, so I'll write my own poker e-book. No sales... hmm.

Month 2: Jeremy Enke is a successful dude with his poker forum so I'll try that. Wow this is a lot of f'n work and I officially hate spam more than anything on the planet.

Month 3: The forum didn't work so I'll try building one huge site like P*kerListings. Okay, 22 articles down, only 44,294 more to catch up with them and dominate for the term "poker".

Month 4: My rewritten P*kerlistings reviews aren't ranking on the first page of G**gle, WTF? This sucks, I need to do something else.

Month 5: I read a great post about mini-sites so I'll start newpokersitebonuscoderocks.com. 10 sign-ups great!

Month 6: OMG, newpokersite closed down, now what?

Month 7: I'm still not making the money I want, maybe I need to start a rakeback site.

Month 8: Yaahh I made $5 this month!

Month 9: Rakeback is too competitive, I need something else. Oh man, I just read uber entrepreneur's post about the poker industry being too saturated to make money unless you build something new and innovative, but where do I start? I'm going to start a twitter for poker players - oh dang 200 other people have that going.

This is too hard - I quit.

The ones who are persistent and don't give up eventually make it.

I really believe most people try to be helpful with their advice. It's just that it tends to differ greatly, based on each person's own experience in the industry.

It's all about reading between the lines, finding something that works for you, and replicating that success over and over.

Great post man. I couldn't agree more about life being short. Nothing is more important in this world than family and actually enjoying life. When you check out, it doesn't matter how many websites you own or how much money you have in the bank.

What? No "get a girlfriend on your list"???? Man, after that pickup line I gave you a few months ago, I figured you'd be set by now. :)

My life motto sums up your posts very well: Work hard, play harder.

I think part of the problem here in the States is there isn't a common culture tying us together. So people tend to be more individual and selfish here, and I certainly agree with the false sense of entitlement.

Kids are spoiled, being handed cell phones, flat screen tvs and gaming consoles right in their bedrooms when they're 8 or 9 years old (I had to get a paper route when I was 12 so I could buy my Nintendo!)

Then again, as a kid there was also funding for after-school programs, activities at parks & playgrounds, etc. All that money dried up and its like kids don't have imaginations anymore. I used to go outside and play pretend with sticks and so forth. But everyone wants to be spoon-fed their entertainment now.

I don't feel there's anything wrong with pursuing wealth. But I agree that a certain level of charity and humility should go along with such a position. Then again, it's not really for me to legislate how others should behave. All you can really do is lead by example and hope enough people take the torch you're trying to pass.
