I love this post MJ. I was the same way for many years. I'd be traveling internationally every few months, trying to manage 1000 things at once, and not spending nearly enough time with my family.

Really, what's the point of making millions and millions of dollars if you don't have time to enjoy it, or spend with your family.

I think it's an admirable thing what you're doing.

+1.... I don't even care for fishing all that much but if I had a boat, you bet ya we would be out there.

It gets worse - I live across the street from the lake plus my boat has a spot on my dads dock since he lives waterfront.

I used to "live" for that kind of stuff, I'm not talking weekend warrior I'm talking Monday at 5am before the sun rises just to be first on glassy water.

This business became borderline obsessive for me, I guess it had to be that way when I jumped into it without know how or capital, but I'm trying to remind myself there is a life to actually be lived out there.

In 2006 I spent the winter in Colorado - was broke as hell but I skied 120 days that year. 2007 did the same thing in Lake Tahoe. 2008 is where it changed.

Very few people if anyone will understand my blogs - bit they are helpful and inspirational to me.

My first real website was Ride. Sleep. Repeat. : MidwestWakeBoarder.com - it still lives on today actually.

Ha! I'm sort of in a similar boat, but thinking of going the other way. I have #2 on the way as well (congrats to you btw!) and I'm starting a new company part time. I will still be involved in affiliate marketing, but I want to do other things, mostly with local business and I plan to outsource a lot of that work. My plan for a while has been to get out of gambling. It's a pretty shitty industry as far as I'm concerned and I want out. Unfortunately for you guys, that doesn't mean you'll all be rid of me! I will still hang out here in the non gambling areas, seo, etc.

I've been selling off my sites one by one. In fact, I really have one gambling site left to sell but it's not in a condition to be sold yet. So I will be working on it for a few months before I put it up for sale.

Anyway, I have been stuggling with the family balance as well for a long time MJ so I know exactly how you feel and you are making the right move. At some point, you have to step back and look at what you do and how it impacts others. I think you'll find that this decision will be for the best, especially at this stage in your life. Good luck!

Thanks guys - I'd like to point out that there has never been a better time to make offers on sites and domains I own, I am very motivated to clear my plate and willing to drop my prices to lower prices.

I hope to have a dedicated project manager again some day, but I do feel it's time I put in the work solo for a bit. Scaling down is something I need to do, so we'll focus on that for a bit.

I'm grateful that I get to spend everyday working at home with my child, but I don't set the good hours like you mentioned and often don't really spend a lot of quality time with them being preoccupied with trying to link build to 100 sites lol.

I'm absolutely stoked to have a second on the way though, and hope to be semi retired by the time he/she gets here.

One thing I will say is that you'll never get that time again with your kids so really don't waste it!!

I've got 4 nippers and spend less time working now and more time doing daft stuff with them. I regret working all the hours possible in the past when in the big scale of things, many of these hours ar wasted and not "really working" or doing productive stuff anyway.

The key imo is outsource everything that bores you but tweek everything you get from those who do the work for you.

Decide what hours you're gonna work and actually do some work in that time! Prioritise what you need to do, and when you need to do it.

Best of luck with everything anyway, and sometimes doing things by yourself is the easiest / best / most hassle free way.
