Create a Fun Site!

One thing I think affiliates need to do more is create "fun" sites - by that I mean sites that you WANT to run, but don't actually care if you make any money from - any earnings are a bonus.
I've got quite a few fun sites, and you have no idea how soothing it is when churning out content for them. I don't have schedules, I can miss a few weeks and it's no biggie - I don't constantly check stats and give myself a headache watching Clicktale videos, and trying to determine why I'm not getting any conversions.
It can be great to run sites like this because you can try a whole bunch of new stuff, and it even gives you an option to get into another niche. Maybe you like watching movies and sharing your opinion - so create a movie review site. When you watch a movie write about it on your website, then chuck some Amazon or ebay ads on at the bottom of it and hope for the best.
A lot of people here run Poker Affiliate Blogs and I think a large reason for that is because it's quite frankly fun to do - plus when you write stuff out, you get to learn about things a lot more clearly, and it helps you in the long run. I know with Poker Affiliate Bible I really enjoy running that site, and I'd like to think it shows in the work I do.
It doesn't even have to be a poker affiliate blog - the movies one above is an example. It could be a recipe blog, or if you enjoy photography some sort of photo blog. For example Jeremy - you like to post your tips/predictions on the Bears games on Facebook. Perhaps you could turn that into a blog - although I believe delusional.com is already taken
Of course I have a slight ulterior motive for this article - to mention my latest "fun" site. The premise of it is simple - every Sunday I deposit $100 at a new casino, get the bonus, then Monday through Friday I blog about my experiences there, win or lose. It's a site I am really enjoying running, and gives me freedom to write what I want. You can see it here: and I'd appreciate any links, stumble upons or any of that other stuffStill a bit of a WIP.
You can use that idea to even create your own site - maybe you like playing poker tournaments, so play one per day, and blog about it no matter if you get eliminated first, or get to the final table. I'm sure people would love to hear more about Jason Playing Bingo - even a humorous site like that, where he rants and rants yet continues to play, would be a blast to read. I find that when I write sites like this too I tend to write more - on my casino blog for example, my review articles are over 1300 words with ease.
The main point of this is to create for yourself a site that you actually enjoy running, that you don't care if it makes a dime or not, and that you can have some fun and a place to blow off steam without worrying if your article is search engine optimized or what your PageRank is. It's nice to run a website where server downtime doesn't equal immediate heart attack![]()
