Keep Your Bankroll Bubbling with an Edge Outside the Game

Poker is all about making the most of even the slightest edges if and when they come your way, and the chances are that you already have your strategy down for exploiting those opportunities. However, when playing any game at a casino, card room or elsewhere, there are several more edges to exploit. Much as sitting at a slot machine in a casino will usually reward you with free drinks at the very least - and potentially much more - there are always opportunities to make a little more from your gaming experience and today we're going to shine the spotlight on a couple of our favourites.

Rakeback

It is pretty fair to say that if you're playing online poker to any significant level and you're not benefitting from rakeback, then you're quite possibly doing it wrong! As most of our readers will know, part of the pot in any cash game is taken by the casino as the rake, basically as a service charge for bringing together these players and hosting them in the same place. One of the perks of being a regular player is that you can expect to get some of this rake back - hence the name rakeback - and players at the mid-tier of rewards and above can generally expect to receive between 30 and 50% of their monthly rake back, paid into their account as real cash.
With extras like this, you are often better off choosing one poker room and sticking with it. The more you play, the bigger the rewards will be, often due to a system of VIP tiers, and the higher your tier, the bigger the percentage of the rake you'll receive back into your account. In a game of tight margins and small edges, every percentage point counts and if you're already a winning player, this can be the icing on the cake.

No Deposit Bonuses

For poker players, there are several different ways in which to make use of a no deposit bonus. If you're one of the aforementioned regulars, then it is not unlikely to find yourself with some free chips and tournament entries on a frequent basis. However, with free cash such as this, it can often be worth casting your net a little wider as these bonuses are offered for sports betting, casino play, live dealer gaming and much more. Given that many poker players are always on the lookout for action, whether they are seated at the table or not, when there is no risk at all involved then you might as well take the free cash that is on offer, just as long as the time it takes to clear it doesn't prove to be extortionate!

Consistency

We've touched on many of the ways in which poker rooms, casinos and other operators look to reward players, but the fact remains that the more loyal a player you are, the more likely you are to be rewarded - there's a reason why VIP schemes have been around since the dawn of time in online gaming. We would never try to put players off having accounts with multiple operators as you never know what they might offer and when, but it is worth trying a few and settling on a favourite as the rewards for playing 100 hours at one room will generally be exponentially bigger than 10 hours each at 10 different gaming destinations.
