The word "success" is a tricky word, and one that holds a different meaning for almost everyone in this world. The word itself has an enormous amount of variance in its definition depending on the individual. Whether it's business or personal life, every person will measure their own success with different metrics. Let's look at the big picture though when speaking about success.
I remember when I was making $30K a year working on an ambulance, and thought to myself "If I get into business and can double my income to $60K......I will be ballin and super successful." That was then, now days if I only made $60k in a year, I would consider that an extremely unsuccessful year from a financial perspective.
Too many people tie success directly to dollar signs though, including myself sometimes. This is the wrong way to look at success for both yourself and others. I remember a couple years ago I had a new sub-affiliate who still in college was able to build his affiliate income to $4-$5K a month. For a college student in his first year as an affiliate, this was a huge success.
It's hard for most people in the affiliate business to gauge success on anything BUT money and income. This is because in our business there are so many ways to make money, and most of us get multiple payments each month. Personally though I want to live a successful life and measure a fair amount of my success by things that are not material. Money comes and goes fast in the business we're in. Most people cannot fathom the financial swings we have all taken from SERP's dropping, UIGEA, bad investments, etc. Likewise, getting wires or checks like we get for large amounts each month are merely a pipe dream for 99% of the population.
When measuring your personal success, pretend money held no value (If you're in the U.S., this is not a far stretch!) But, think about your work ethics, your habits, how people view you, your goals, how you plan to achieve your goals, your personal life, your relationships, EVERYTHING. And then ask yourself "Am I successful?"
Don't get me wrong here, I love money and I make decisions in business that will lead to more money and income. However one thing I have personally found is that if you spend a little time focusing on the other areas in life, overall success will come. I am a true believer that good things happen to good people.
Make it a great week!
