Firing Employees In Tough Economic Times

I found the perfect solution for those of you that have offices with employees and have struggled with potentially downsizing within your company.
Letter from the Boss
As the CEO of this organization, I have resigned myself to the fact that Barack Obama is our President and that our taxes and government fees will increase in a BIG way over the coming months and years.
For our small business to compensate for the increased taxation, our prices would have to increase by about 10%. But since we cannot increase our prices right now due to the dismal state of the economy, I have to announce with deep regret that we will have to lay off six of our employees instead.
This has really been bothering me since I consider everyone in the company a part of our family. I didn't know how to choose who would have to go, so this is what I did. I walked through our parking lot and found six 'Obama' bumper stickers on our employees vehicles and have decided these folks will be the ones to let go.
I can't think of a more fair way to approach this problem. They voted for change, and I gave it to them. I will see the rest of you at the annual company picnic.

Well obviously being under the watchful eyes of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Mr Brown over here in England I cant really comment on economics etc etc
I can however spot sarcasm a mile away with one eye closed as it is something I pride myself on having more than my fair share of and so does our wonderful leader here at PAL.
Great post Jeremy.Posted 07-09-2009 at 03:13 AM by pomp

Agreed Bush was an idiot, however Barry has been in office for over 6 months and spent more money than every other president combined for the last 200 years with no explanation to "we the people" on how this is going to get paid back, or how printing trillions of fiat dollars is not going to cause hyperinflation or a complete economic collapse. Let's not even talk about the true unemployment numbers in the U.S. right now.......Originally Posted by Graham Just be happy Bush is gone. A retarded monkey would be better in there then Bush. I think Obama is gonna need some time to fix all the shit he left behind.
At some point Obama will have to take some responsibility for his actions and realize he can only blame Bush so long. More people in this country should stop thinking the ideas of people like Ron Paul are "right wing extremism", and realize they are the foundation of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness as a U.S. citizen.
I think all the Obamamessiah supporters who voted for this "change" got fleeced.

I was an Obama supporter, but I do agree that the stimulus and bailouts were bad ideas that only push resolution and responsibility for the current economic collapse further into the future.
All we're doing is borrowing against our future by printing more money and devalueing the dollar. And wasn't the liberal distribution of credit to those who couldn't afford it and/or pay it back the main problem here anyway?
So how does replicating this (i.e. throwing money into companies that will just burn through it and eventually collapse) solve anything?
Unfortunately there's a lot of people here in the U.S. who just thought our government had this $800 billion lying around to "help" us out, there were tons of people who didn't realize that this money is being taken from "we the people" and wasn't just sitting in a coffer waiting to be distributed.

You're not getting paid back. Excellent post BTW.
I do have to give a lot of credit to Obama for one thing. He came to Canada on business not long after being elected and actually got Steven Harper to crack a smile and wave at people. (You know, cause monkey sees monkey does). You could tell Stevie had a certain stiffness in this whole experience. I suppose that's understandable.
