Gambling Domains - Acquiring Premium Sites

As time goes on, I imagine it will get harder and harder to acquire premium online gambling sites or domains at a reasonable price. The big problem is that many site owners want a premium for a domain name that just isn't worth that. This isn't always the case and on the other hand, there are quite a few cheap or reasonably priced domains out there.

Will the high priced domain owners eventually realize that their site isn't worth more than having that number one spot for the respected term? Probably some, but it doesn't mean they will put a reasonable price tag on it anytime soon. Let me give you an example of something you will probably see when looking for a domain...

I came across an online gambling domain that I wanted to purchase. The owner wanted well into six figures for it, which wasn't even close to a reasonable price. I later found a very similar domain (non plural version - maybe not quite the search volume, but still valuable) that cost 130 times less.

If any of you have purchased premium gambling sites before, I'm sure you know exactly what I'm talking about. Some owners want an arm and leg for them, others want the actual value for them, and still others are almost willing to give them away.

Of course, if you find a domain that is an absolute bargain, I'm sure you'll purchase that ASAP. However, what about those domains that are priced right in the middle?

When you find a gambling site that you feel is worth the money, how do you know what kind of return you will actually see? I've seen plenty of examples where keyword suggestion tools were way off on their predicted search volumes (some for and some against). Also, if you are new to that specific niche, how will the traffic convert?

There will certainly be some risk involved when paying a high price for a premium gambling domain, but do your research and you should be able to minimize that risk.

Good post, there is a big risk and reward to buying those middle of the road domains you mentioned. I find usually they will be worth what I put into them. I think by now most of us know that any domain can rank for anything. I think the big issue right now is that the market is saturated with domainers and wannabe affiliates that have a decent domain maybe worth $100-$200 in actually value (not sentimental value) and they think it is worth in the $XXXX's because they like it.

The funny thing is that IF they would spend a month or so developing the site they actually would be worth a nice price. Many times they throw up some pages, do some LE's, and think they can flip them for a huge profit. Most of the time we all just laugh a little inside.

I think we can all agree the easy domains are gone, but by checking out the domain drop type websites you can find some gems still for a reasonable price. Better yet, there is still some very good domains still unregistered or that people forget to renew. I recently picked up two great rakeback domains which I'm working hard on. They get natural traffic and within the first month is is one of my most promising sites.

What I found most interesting is it was just by accident I even found the domain unregistered at godaddy. Yeah I typed it in to see if it was available and BOOM it was lol. I still shake my head in amazement that it was unregistered. Of course this is the .net and .org, but I'm still very happy paying $18 for a site that gives me a quick ROI. BTW might as well drop a link to it because it will be my main site by the years end I think. Online Poker Rakeback

So I guess what I'm rambling about is that there is still some very good unregistered domains. MJ is a great example of someone who picked up hundreds of killer domains just sitting there. You just have too look and know WHAT to look for.

OnlinePokerRakeback.net and org were available? That's crazy I never picked those up lol....(wish I had, that's a sick domain set!)

I recently picked up LimitPoker.org, OnlinePokerDownloads.com (and all other extensions) and BlackjackSite.org for reg fee - and that was just in the last two weeks. Plenty still left out there.

I would still pay a lot for a domain that had a large number of exact match volume though, that's the elusive ones and those are the domains that can pick up hefty cash (if anyone has one for sale PM me).

So how do you know what the domains are actually worth? I have a 2 word .org poker domain that gets 400,000 searches per month according to google. and should convert players (i.e it is not pokerchips.org). I also have for an example word-word.com which gets 100,000 searches per month (obviously as word word).
Unfortunately I cant post the domains here right now, but could I expect low five figures for the first one and four figures for the second?

I don't have experience in selling domains, so I'm not sure how to value you them from a selling standpoint.

Is that search volume using the Google Adwords Keyword Tool with the "Exact" match type selected? Just to give you an idea, that tool shows "poker" at 673,000 and "online poker" at 165,000 searches per month (and if anything I'd say this tool reads quite high in most terms).

It's also a good idea to use multiple tools to see what they all say about a specific keyword to help give you an idea. Another great tool is Keyword Discovery.

Haha. With the exact the 400,000 became 6000 and 100,000 became 20,000.

I know I made a mistake not rapping up all the domains I could that were similar to Poker Bonus Codes.
