Poker Affiliation Still The Way Forward...?

Well guys as many of you will know, i have been in and out of the niche over the last few years and with the new year on the way in, i'm thinking that i need to set my sights on one major project and hit it hard.

I have made the mistake of taking on way too much for my own personal workload and so have failed to create the site that is truly a look into the quality that i can produce for myself.

Anyone else questioning whether focusing purely on online poker affiliation is the best way to go?

I mean with so many people having promoted the sites that are the front runners in the industry, its not going to be a task that will take less than 12 months to be able to create a brand and have it self funding is it?

Could moving into a smaller niche or jumping into the online casino niche a better option?

This would mean that i would have to abort all that i know about the online poker world and basically convert the whole of my thinking and strategic capabilities...

New year... New project.

Well, a couple years ago I would have said yes, focus on poker and dominate it before moving on. However, now I think it would be foolish to base all your income in one spot. The market is more unstable now than it was 5 years ago or more. Now that's not to say poker is going away, because it never will. but the willingness of rooms like FT to change agreements, change margins, etc is what makes it so unstable. Of course legal bills and regulations cast a scary shadow as well.

So I would suggest that "online marketing" is a viable way to make a nice amount of wealth, but I would not limit myself to one niche. Gaming in general has some of the highest commissions though, so if you can grab some income there, and leverage it into other markets, you will be doing well.

If you can make money in gaming, everything is downhill from there. Competition, SEO, basic marketing tactics are all much softer in non gaming markets.

Not sure if that answers your question or not, but basically NO, don't just be a poker/gaming affiliate. But don't discount the value of fighting in this market, if nothing else it will be a learning experience

    Hi Ridge,

Thanks for the comment and it seems that you are confirming my thoughts that have placed doubt as to whether to throw myself completely into one main site within the niche.

Guess i will just sit back a little and re-think a number of things before starting my assault on whatever niche i think possible to make a good earning from.

Ridge put my exact thoughts into words perfectly. I agree 110% - especially with the learning experience. If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.
