This is a nice discussion. I can't speak for any other AM's but I know that generally if we ask the amount of players we might see from a campaign, we are just trying to get an idea.

I do think a better question is, given the positioning and results with the other casinos you promote, about how many players do you send that casino per month on average? Obviously in poker, Full tilt will convert better than SunPoker in the same location, but it can at least give you an idea from an AM standpoint.

I agree that AM's should be telling affiliates what they can offer the affiliate to start with. It makes no sense for me to say, hi affiliate, we would like to work with you, how many players can you send me. I do think that AM's like to get an idea of how and where their brand would be promoted when negotiating a deal so be willing to discuss your advertising strategy for the brand with the AM.

I have to agree with this. I use that line a lot, and the reason for it is simple. I get a lot of new affiliate emails every day, its the quickest way to skip step 1, 2, and 3. I can get a general understanding of their value by their answer. Is it an exact science? Of course not. But it speeds the process up and opens my time up for other affiliates.

CPA deals rarely turn out well. Most casino affiliates are in it for the long term and go rev share. I have seen so many complaints on cpa deals. I would never touch one, no matter the traffic.

There is a lot of fraud in this area, hence the 'first deposit' rule. I've seen aff managers frustrated that the high cpa deals netted someones brother, sister, uncle etc and these 'players' are never to be seen again. Meanwhile the aff takes off with their high cpa.

On the other hand, legitimate affiliates trying to work with cpa are seen as suspicious or fall short of the required first deposit. Causing much distress.

If affiliates are in this business long term, rev share is the way to go. JMO.

I agree, revenue share is far better in the long run than CPA, CPA opens up too many issues, that said i know of a few websites that will do only CPA simply because they dont trust affiliate programs in the long run and fear that at some stage in the future "lifetime" deals will be compromised, certain clauses installed about active players and so on.

They would rather take their CPA and be done with it, especially now that Affiliate programs are pushing more and more for new customers no matter however many you have sent them in the past, if your on CPA you are not under this pressure.

That said i am a revenue share man all the way, and when i get to a certain stage with a program i am able to negotiate a tenancy fee in return for a reduced revenue share.

As an example if i reach say 40% on a program i then go back and say pay me x amount per month and reduce my revenue share down to 20%, i have this in place with a couple of programs already,

You cannot do that with CPA

Excellent points Betpartners. There are many pros and cons. To me the cons outweigh the pros as far as cpa goes.

Agree, I always try to ask "open" question types just to see what kind of info i get, but when it gets evasive or not to the point i need to guide the conversation, that's when specific questions arise.

    Hi MJ,

Thanks for a lovely response to one of my first posts - you so know how to make someone feel welcome!

I may not work for one of the largest companies, but yes, I do speak to website owners, and no, I certainly did not try to contact you on 3 different forums.

I did send you a PM, and I'm sorry if it upset you. (Same to you Doovde). I have contacted owners before using this method - people are free to reply or to ignore, and I've never had a response like yours before. I've built up some good relationships with people who have actually liked my proactive approach.

Good job we're not all the same huh?

    Excuse me?

You pm'ed me the same cookie cutter spam on PAL, CAL, and CAP. Lying about it is just silly, should I screenshot them?

As you stated yourself, you were looking for a "welcome" well do yourself a service and actually introduce yourself, rather than sending me the same boring email three times over in the course of two hours.

Nobody who comes here and just copy/pastes to the user list will have a good response.

What's telling about this is I never call out spammers, as I figure it's just part of the game but you took it over when I recieved at multiple places within a couple hours.

This is going to open up a new blog post from me. I can say that I've had the liberty of lately bouncing some emails off Kaus and getting her feedback. Sometimes we as marketers can come off too 'sales like' because we are multi-tasking and covering too many bases. If as affiliate managers we can find a few good people to proof read things from time to time for us it's an awesome tool. Kaus is a major help to me and keeps me in check. If anyone would like to bounce some things off me please do it! I'm always down to help or lend an extra set of eyes!

I wouldn't quite agree with you... a good affiliate can presell the casino (and you can do that in multiple ways) before sending the traffic to partner. In combination with good marketing department in casino, this is a winning combination... and in this case higher % for affiliate

Just sending tons of (crap) traffic is not what affiliate program is about.

It is our job to presell too, not just create prelanding SEO optimized pages for the casinos
