How Do You Create a Jackpot Ticker?

I'm looking to create an accurate (or close to accurate) jackpot ticker that updates in real time. I am wondering what is the best way to do this?

I have heard mentioned RSS feeds but not sure how this would work. Any examples? Also there seems to be some way to tie in xml feeds but not sure on this.

Any coders out there want some work? If you can take xml data from a handful of online casino jackpot feeds and integrate it into a simple table that updates the number of the current jackpot into a wordpress hosted site, then I've got some work for you .

Many of the casino programs offer them or are you looking for something different? If they don't have one that you like, I bet if contact the aff manager they would have a techie make one up for you.

I've been doing a fair bit of reading up on this over the last few weeks, as I'd like to get something similar off the ground.

I reckon you'll require a PHP parsing script which will run every hour/day (or however often you want the jackpot information updating).

The script will basically download and update all the relevant information into your database which will then be accessed every time someone visits your site.

Now obviously, this information is not really going to be updated "real time" simply because it's not really feasible to be downloading data every minute, so I don't know if that's going to be an issue with you or not. If it's not though, I might be able to help you out.

If someone has got a better/different way of doing it, then I'm certainly all ears.

EDIT: On a slight sidenote, I've been trying to build up a list of casinos who offer these types of feed, but they seem to be really hard to track down. So if anyone knows of any, then feel free to let me know

Most of this info can be used from feeds from the casinos and the casino affiliate programs. If you cannot find it - ask your affiliate manager.

Also, some of the affiliate backends have feeds and banners that use the feed.

I have seen both recent winners and jackpot ticker feeds.

What shortstack said is what you will need to do to manipulate that feed.

thanks for the feedback so far everyone. I have received a link from some jackpot xml feeds from RockBetJohn (well, when he was with thisisvegas) and from the c-planet casinos.

I think my best bet is to just try to outsource this project to someone knowledgeable. If anyone has any tips, suggestions or recommendations on someone to hire to make this happen, please let me know. I hate to just go post an add at rentacoder and see who I get.
