Experienced ex-Pokerstars content writer wants writing work

Hi All,
I used to be a full time writer for Pokerstars before I became a full time poker player, which I have been doing for the past 2 years. Now that online poker world is getting real tough to make a living off, I've decided to get back to writing about the game. As a websitemaster www.makingapokerwebsite.com - no.1 on google.com for (making poker website) who knows a few things about seo (I don't claim to be a professional website designer!) I can write articles very much with seo in mind. I am ideally interested in regular work, but one off articles are welcome too, obviously as poker playing is my main background that's what I would be looking to write about, but of course I have many more interests other than poker so I would consider writing about other stuff too.

I’ve got a few pms enquiring about my prices. I’ll be honest and say I wasn’t sure what I should have been charging as most of the work I did in the past was full-time contract and not based on per article or per word. The feedback I’m getting is that the standard rate is $.05c a word, so just to clarify to all those who pm'd me I will be charging this for now.

I know my subject matter very well as I have been playing poker several years. I’ve played many forms of poker, from small stakes to high stakes, and I’ve also played all the major poker disciplines, i.e. No limit Hold Em, Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo, Stud, Razz etc. I’ve also plenty experience in cash games, Sngs, Mtts, as well as that I also enjoy writing. I’ve done 6 articles for one PAL member yesterday and he seems very pleased with them, particularly the first 4 I sent him. I will aim to do top quality material every time I write an article as I would ideally like of course to build enough of a reputation where I could charge more than $.05c a word.

If anybody wants samples of my work I’ll be glad to show them and/or if you want me to write an article for you, I’ll do so and if you are not happy with it for whatever reason, well you don’t pay (and don't use ).

5 cents is generally the going rate that I pay. But I think someone with your credentials it should be higher.

Having said that, I think 5 cents is a good start for you to build up a client base. Once you are established you could definitely ask for more.

Cheers CoolDog. I wasn't sure what to ask. When I did a few freelance years ago I got paid a lot, way more than anyone here would pay, perhaps the guy didn't know what the market rate was or maybe the rates were better back then, or a combination of both.

Anyway I thought I could perhaps charge more than 5 cents but the general reaction in my pms to 10 cents was one one of horror, and at the end of the day I want to write, so for now I'm happy to go with 5 cents until I become more established here at least.

Haha, 10 cents is not too much. I know of a poker pro who charges 25 cents and only gives you rights to the article for 2 years!

10 cents for quality, profesional work, especially strategy articles is a good deal imo.

Well that's good news to hear. I was really hoping to get a higher rate than 5 cent a word but I've put the price up here at 5 cent and have already committed to a couple of people at that rate so I'm happy to do that just for now, especially as I'm a relative unknown on PAL and I appreciate the business of those who are willing to give my articles a try. Nevertheless hopefully I will be in a position in the near future to command a higher rate. I'll just have to see how it pans out.

God what a sweet deal that poker pro you mentioned is on, he must be an amazing writer or some big name poker player to have it built in that the articles go back to him in 2 years!

I had a couple of articles written by Barry and the work he provided was superb. They were professionally written, and he goes out of his way to do the research for the given topics.

He's super friendly and delivered the articles very quickly.

I highly recommend him!
