Opinion on domain name value of HOW-TO-PLAY-POKER.COM

Hi i was wondering if i could get some honest opinions on the value of a domain i own HOW-TO-PLAY-POKER.com. I have recently been thinking about selling it if i could get what i'd consider a good price, it is currently not for sale but if the price is right that could change. How to play poker is one of the top poker related searches online, especially for new players who are yet to join any online poker sites.

I wouldn't even register it if it was available. Would be shocked if you got more than $100 for it. How to play poker is not exactly a high value keyword.

It's actually an extremley high value keyword in terms of how often it is searched for.

Well you have a site on there already, with affiliate links. Surely you could come up with a ballpark based on your own stats.

The number of times something is searched for does not make it high value. And knowing conversion stats for that particular keyword, it would need about 100x the volume it gets in order for it to be "high value".

Furthermore, domains with dashes in them look spammier, probably have lower clickthrough, are probably harder to rank, get less of an exact match boost, have no type in traffic and are hard to remember. Overall, not a list of factors that make this domain an attractive purchase.

It's not that great of a domain. The dashes hurt, and if you think the exact match power is that great then you've logically got a lot of people in front of you (howtoplaypoker.com, howto-playpoker.com, howtoplaypoker.org and so on).

I think the EMD boost has become less post panda, although I still wouldn't touch this domain with a 10 foot pole.

Yeah I think it's time to ditch what you're doing with that domain, but the same goes for qipoker.com. I would regroup and find opportunities that are aimed at conversion because these sites aren't. There are so many guides out there by now and it's such a saturated niche that you really have to know the basic principles and what the competition is doing to teach yourself a different mindset.

Sorry to discourage you, even though it's doubtful you'd even listen. Too many of you guys come in full of hopes and dreams, get burned down and go back to a regular job. Refocus that energy on studying the affiliate market instead and knowing what you can realistically hope for. Don't assume money comes easy, but view it as realistic to make a steady income from home at one point in time. That freedom is the single most valuable thing I have ever obtained. Know your news, find that new stable poker site that is opening its doors and rank for some banging keywords before anyone else - long enough to generate some budget for your new project.

Thanks for the input and advice, part of the reason i was asking was to help decide if it was worth developing the site properly, leave it as it is or sell. As far as the domain name itself, i've found Bing/Yahoo tend to like keyword domain names like this far more than Google.
