    Default A question about Aweber

I reckon the time has come for me to give my newsletters a shot in the arm and sign up to Aweber.

I've just got a quick question with how it deals with spam though. I've noticed since I put my mail forms up on my site that I'm getting a load of spam subscriptions: anything from Viagra pills to Ray ban sunglasses.

So my question is, Will Aweber deal with subscriptions like this? Or will I just end up with a mailing list that's full of crap and meaningless addresses? How affective is it at weeding out the real subscribers from the complete crap I find in my mailbox every morning?

Also, is there anything else I should be wary of when it comes to Aweber, or is everyone's general opinion that it's the mutt's nuts?

That's good to hear - I'm not saying I have Jan. I haven't actually got an account at Aweber yet.

Having tried to set up my own mailing list though, I've come to realise how much spam gets submitted in a web form ... so I just wanted to check that Aweber would deal with all that if/when I sign up.

In order to sign up for your list they have to confirm that their e-mail, so you will only get legit sign ups interested in what you have to offer..

Not entirely true. You can do single opt-in with Aweber.

If you're importing a list into Aweber, all of your subscribers will have to re opt-in, but new subscribers only have to confirm their subscription if you set it up that way.

Aweber is also pretty good at sniffing out the fake email addressess. If you're running a single opt in list, and they think the email address which subscribed might be fake, they will require that particular subscriber to confirm their subscription.

    What would you recommend doing?

    Single or Double Opt-In?

Have you, or anyone else, split tested double vs single opt-in on Aweber?

I have all my lists set to double opt-in, but I wonder how many valid subscribers don't actually confirm their email on double opt-in?

One situation I can maybe see would be that the confirmation email goes to their junk folder, but the follow-ups and broadcasts for some reasons wouldn't, in which case single would be a better option...
