Creating newsletters

So my membership of Aweber seems to be bearing some kind of fruit - I'm rather pleasantly suprised to see that a few people have signed up for a newsletter from my latest poker site ... which means that I now need to look into creating a newsletter to send them!

I've got a few questions that I'd certainly appreciate people's thoughts on:

• How often do you send out your mailers
• How do you ensure that you're aware of promotional content far enough in advance to include it into the letter? I find getting promotional news out of programs can be like getting blood out of a stone at the best of times. Even those programs that do send out newsletters tend to only give affiliates a couple of days notice of a promotion, which obviously isn't particularly great if you're sending out a monthly newsletter.
• Is it possible to upload custom designs into Aweber, or am I forced to chose on their standard templates?
• Would anybody feel comfortable letting me see an example of their newsletter? I'd really appreciate knowing what I should be aiming for!

You can create your own html newsletter. Basically, link to images located on your server. You can't include a css file as e-mail clients will usually strip that out of the code before they display it. Then you end up with an unformatted newsletter. You can code css directly in the html code. Test it against a few e-mail accounts (hotmail, gmail, yahoo) to see how it will come out. Trial and error. Try to keep it simple.

You don't need to ask that question. You know what sites people run. Just go sign up to their newsletter. (mine sucks. Working on it.)

For the record, I swear there was a pal thread based on newsletters made just a couple of weeks ago. It had alot of useful information in it about how often to send them out, what info, how to monetize etc.
It's worth reading that I think before starting a whole new thread on the topic.

Just search PAL for "newsletters" - The Forums At Poker Affiliate Listings - Search Results

There's about 5-6 really useful treads, some about aweber specifically. I don't know if it covers everything you want to know, but they are still very useful if you're about to embark on newsletters.

We send out once a month, any more and we'd have to dedicate a significant amount of time to it. I'm sure Aweber will let you use a custom design. Though to be honest, text only newsletter can be very effective as well - so worth considering.

Mine sucks nuts so can't offer advice. I know what to do, but my time is so limited.
