Default Email Acquisition - What works for you?

    Hi everyone,

My name is Pat. I'm new. Hi there.

I've been experimenting with various email campaigns and I've seen some successes, and some failures.

I benchmark my own send stats, but don't have much extrinsically to compare it to.

I just wanted to start a general conversation (as my first post), to discuss what works for you and what hasn't worked.

I look forward to contributing more where I can.

    Regards,

    Pat

What works in term of getting people to give you their e-mail? Or in terms of using those e-mails efefctively once you get them?

Hi Pat, welcome to the forum.

I personally direct my subscribers to the content on my site to convert them. Seems to work well for me. However, everybody on this forum that has a newsletter all have their own ways of doing things that work for them.

I recommend split testing your emails. One directing subscribers to your content on your site and one directing subscribers to whatever you promoting. See which one converts best for you.

I tell you what doesn't work, and that's sending all your subscribers the same email 800 times. It happened to me a couple of years ago when sending out a freeroll announcement. Death wishes were just the good things amongst what people wished would happen to me

In case you're one of those affiliates that don't make a dime, why not play some free poker on my website PokerForFree.org. I am always on the hunt for new members, and if you contact me and mention PAL, I'll be more than happy to increase your initial bankroll a bit

That's funny : ) Been there (just not quite so bad).

Thanks for the greetings and comments everyone.

I've noticed better responses with (these are common sense, mind you):

    - Firstname variable in the subject line.
    - Firstname variable as a salutations.
    - One exciting product/promotion per email (unless your newsletter format caters to that chaos).
    - Have a big call to action with a "pssst" in small, accompanying it. Perhaps a lour to an even better deal on the subject.
    - Art with real people in them are weak-sauce (the casino/poker stock images used for the last 10 years... you know the ones...)

I've recently tried a sales copy approach (italics, bold, different fonts/colours/sizes), than my standard copy approach. Seems to be working just as effective as the previous "normal" email I make.

    Thanks again, guys/gals.
