Default What is the future for poker affiliates?

I've spoken with quite a few successful affiliates lately, with most of them telling me they are getting out of the poker affiliating business and trying their hand at non-gaming affiliating.

I see their point. It seems that every month there is another big change affecting us all, just one poker room after another changing their terms and conditions, commissions etc - totally sucks!

I'm just curious as to what you guy's think is in the future for poker affiliates. Is CPA going to be wiped out and affiliates only offered rev-share? Or maybe CPA amounts will just be lowered?

Anyway, I just got wondering this because a friend has been questioning me about what poker affiliating involves.

Let's face it, since we are promoting "gambling" online it always pays to diversify into other online niches. The poker industry in particular seems more susceptible to 3rd party rules out of our control and really - things could simply evaporate over night.

    But that has always been.

With that said, I am stickin' around and hope a massive amount of my competitors jump ship.

I think there are two different sides of coin in the poker aff industry.

Those new to poker affiliating will find it harder, more compettiive, lower CPAs rates and more discriminating/predetaroy policies.

On the other hand I think experienced affiliates who have entrenched partnerships in the industry will prosper from those jumping ship as turtle knife said, also prosper from strong partnerships (e.g. many revshare changes are non-retrospective) and the fact that let's not forget, online gaming and poker is continualy increasing in popularity. It's a very new yet fast growing market which can more than cover the occasional cpa change of conditions.

    Yeah I agree with that.

There will always be a demand for online poker, and yeah Adam I definately wouldn't want to be starting out now lol. I started properly around a year ago and it is only now that I am getting a good steady income to live on.

I'm not even sure why I made this thread , I'm going nowhere and I'm sure most others aren't either. Just thought it would be cool to discuss what people think of all the changes going on and their opinions on what the affiliate programs will be throwing at us in the near and distant future.

Market is slowing down - annual growth is now only 9% (was over 20%). Long recession, problems with law in many countries etc. IMO poker affiliate future is not so bright.

I completely agree with Turtleknife. Just hope a lot of my competitors exit the poker niche.

I suggest focusing on promoting casino at the moment when it comes to gambling. Casino has always been big and always will be, while poker however goes up and down.

The obvious answer is to stay in poker and take advantage of the new power vacuum.
Even if you fall on your face, you're still moving forward.
