Default Going to build a huge site, wordpress or .php

Im planning on spending the summer building a massive website and am looking for some advice on which platform to build it on.

My inclination is to build with wordpress as it is so easy to use, but I am concerned about wordpress being too easily hackable. I hope for this site to become very popular and receive a tonne of traffic, it therefore may become a good target for hackers!

Is this something I should be legitimately worried about or are the ways to 110% secure a wordpress site?

Are there any other reasons why I should choose .php over wordpress?

Wordpress can be easily modified so that the source code provides no hint it is wordpress powered. If you change the location of the admin log in, use a secure passwords changed frequently and avoid plug ins it should be secure enough. Also regular website back ups go along way and wordpress is easy to restore to a previous back up when it does get hacked.
If you're going to bet US Sports online - I strongly suggest 5Dimes.com or Bookmaker.eu.

Some succeed because they are destined to, but most succeed because they are determined to.

I don't think there is a way to 110% secure ANY website. If wordpress is flexible enough for your requirements then I would definitely choose it. It's more then a blog platform, it's a CMS.

I always answer Wordpress to this question.

As was mentioned, no site is 100% secure from hackers.
But you just need good backups.

I would not build a large site without a CMS(content management system). I believe a large site should be database driven. I believe this allows for the greatest flexibility in the future.

If you have the budget I would lean towards a custom php cms tailored to your needs and powered by mysql database. 2-5k in development but wp would also be good.

I think I know the project btw (fun bidding war we had) and I has massive potential - good luck!

Speaking from experience, go with a CMS, either Wordpress or something similar.
Trying to manage a site built simply in PHP is a nightmare.

If you got the budget I'd consider a custom cms aswell thats what I did for my site www.GamblingStrategy.net and I could'nt be happier with it.
