want to switch website domains please help

Hi

Im sorry if this is a really newbie question but I have no idea how to do this:

I have built a website on "domain X". I have decided that "domain X" is not a very good address so I purchased another domain name, "domain Y"

I want to move the website from "domain X" to "domain Y" without losing any of the rankings that "domain X" already has.

Is this possible, if so how do I do it? The website on "domain X" is on wordpress.

You need to 301 redirect the site to the new domain. If you search in the SEO forum you'll find a thread II started recently asking the same question!

Isnt that something different? Wont visitors to site X just be forwarded to site Y? I want the content on site X to be on site Y instead.

You will set up site y exactly as site x is(this is easy with wp). Then you will redirect.
