Default Staying Organized - Link Building For Multiple Sites

I was curious if anyone could share how they are staying organized with link building. I know many of us have multiple websites, some even hundreds all which need links from directories and what not. So how do you structure everything so you know exactly which sites you have bought links for and which ones you haven't.

I thought about maybe doing an excel spreadsheet where you could list the directory, then have a dropdown type thing where you could put checkmarks beside your sites that you have bought a link for from that particular directory.

I am really trying hard to get organized this year, but I figured before I moved forward with anything on my own I would ask for some ideas from other affiliates. I don't want to do something and find out there is already a script or something I could buy that would help with this. ANy ideas?

I have a spreadsheet for my links purchased that I could send to you, but I don't think it is exactly what you are looking for. I don't have a list of directories/sites that I have purchased or haven't purchased from.

What I do have is one master spreadsheet, and then an individual spreadsheet for each site. I fill out the main, then transfer to the appropriate site sheet.

The fields on the master sheet are:
    1) name of site (my site name)
    2) date purchased
    3)expiration
    4) site address (the site i purchased from)
    5) kind of link (footer, in content, sidebar, part of text block, etc)
    6) contact for renewal
    7) total cost
    8) cost per month
    9) # of months

The only difference in the sheets for the individual sites is that I have changed the "name of the site" field to be a field for "anchor text".

Edited to add: This sheet is depressing to look at as most of the links were purchased when I was actually receiving payments from PokerStars. Now my lonely site sits at #1 for some good terms without making shit from them. God I really need to change that to direct that traffic to Tilt or Cake.

Thanks prenut, I actually have something similar but its not conducive for multiple sites. I was hoping to keep one master sheet for all directories but have the ability to use a dropdown menu where I could check off which of my sites I have bought links for.

I may just have someone program something for me where I could slap it online and keep track of everything that way. Then I don't have to worry about losing it when my computer takes a shit like the other 4 have done.

Im starting to use Microsoft Access to keep track of a few things. This will be a step up from a spread sheet for ya and will be able to do just about everything it sounds like you need.

    Hey Prenut,

I hate to be the guy that asks a stupid question but why are you not receiving payments from PokerStars?

I manage link building for 241 websites that I own. Here is what i find that has worked for me for the 3 plus years i have owned these or more websites. Each week i buy links for 4-5 websites.I have a folder in my docs file for link buying.EVERY WEBSITE has their own document file.I have my own script i made custom for my own use and i get a printout each month for expiring links per domain. It is a good idea to keep an update on sites you buy links from for changes in pr ,are they still cached in google etc.
There is no easy task to do it when you have hundreds of websites but it helps when you are organized.

I can do that for you very quickly in excel. Actually, I can probably do more cool stuff with your data. Send me a PM if you want to talk.

I remember when I hung out with Judy in Canada and she was telling me about how many sites she had and how she managed it all. It is impressive to say the least.

You know you could have all of that in a single excel file and be able to filter on all links, expired links, by website, etc. This is very easy to setup and maintain. Using pivot tables, you could actually roll up the information in seconds by month, by quater, by year, by site. In other words, you could see that you have 100 expiring links in Feb for all sites and get the details on those 100 links with a mouse click. Or you could see that for a specific website, you have 10 links that will expired in the next two months. Pivot tables rock. I'm going to be building some of these tools for myself so I will share them with everyone while I'm at it. I'll put together a little user guide too since a lot of people are not familiar with pivot tables.

Anyway, if you want to post a list of things you track in regards to your link exchanges, that help me a lot.

On an unrealetd note, shouldn't your PAL screenname be casinobonusgurl?
