I just tried to backorder a domain on godaddy and it said

A Backorder is currently registered by another person, but you can still own it! All backordered domains go to auction when expired, so you have a chance to win it. Others may have also backordered this name, so act now to secure your place in the auction once it expires.

^ Cheers that's what I figured. I think prop was getting GD domains before the auction system was in place.

Although I think he's right about only 1 person being able to backorder a domain on godaddy. Theres a lot of domain you cant backorder not sure if that because someone already backordered them

The Auction system was there. Not sure the specifics other than what is stated here.

    3) I have read about private auctions at Godaddy - but I'm not sure how this works and have never experienced one.
If you're going to bet US Sports online - I strongly suggest 5Dimes.com or Bookmaker.eu.

So for the first time in a while there was a domain I knew was dropping that was registered at Godaddy. Expecting it would be anyday now I was watching daily for the drop I had backordered and finally determined it would be today. Then really hoping I got this domain I went and backordered it at namejet and snapnames too. I was the only one to backorder at snapnames and namejet. (snapnames ended up being the one to capture it). Now I'm pretty sure had I not done that, this would have been one of those cases where I got it for the Godaddy price. However this one I wanted to much to bother taking the risk over saving $38.

Weird shit is going on prop. I am seeing GD domains not going to tdnam when they would always get auctioned off there. I think it's safe to say GD backorders have become irrelevant if you really want a name backorder at snapnames.

I can't complain though. For the first time ever I am being able to manually register domains I've had my eye on when they would always usually get picked up by someone else before getting dropped. This happened for my last 2 domains, I shouldn't speak too soon.
