Default GoDaddy Backorders - A waste of time nowadays?

Have any of you guys been successful with placing a godaddy backorder on a domain name recently?

I know services like snapnames / namejet have a higher success rate, but wondering what options there are for expiring domains you would like to have but don't really want them enough to spend the $69 minimum on.

I have (28 times), but the only time it works is if it is a godaddy registered domain that would have went to godaddy expiring auctions anyway. People say different but I'm am 99.95% sure that you'll never get a domain registered outside godaddy via this method.
If you're going to bet US Sports online - I strongly suggest 5Dimes.com or Bookmaker.eu.

Some succeed because they are destined to, but most succeed because they are determined to.

Exactly GD domains go to the GD domain aftermarket, I was more wanting to know for domains not registered at GD or GD sponsored registrars.

yeah it doesn't work. I got a 100 back order package about 7 years ago, and forever moved them around targeting ones that would drop and was never successful with it, every now and then I try.

Though not sure I was stating the obvious or not. If you backorder through godaddy for a godaddy registered domain you can stop the domain from going to auction and because very few do this the success rate is quite high.

I assume this only happens when you are the only person to place a backorder on the domain?

Godaddy doesn't let more than one person back order the same domain. So you always get it for the backorder price when they capture it which is 35%+ of time for ones registered with godaddy and just about never for ones registered elsewhere. Generally, you have to backorder well before it drops and have scouted it for this method to work. I got some decent ones via this method, nothing great but baccarat rules nice domain I picked up cheap using this method and paid someone to slap up a design and content on it so can do something with it later. I don't do much of it now that I own multiple 4 figure domains, but for years this was a major part of my strategy. I still do it some, the other week I picked up volleyball betting and paid for cheap content. I actually bet Volleyball a ton so will build that one later.

NameJet sucks anything decent gets ordered so rarely steal anything there. Basically godaddy and snapnames plenty of money to be made sorting through others trash if that's your thing . For me I kinda enjoyed it for a long time but too tired to do it now.

Are you 100% sure about this? It doesn't really make sense from a business standpoint that they would do this. If multiple people are interested in the same domain, why wouldn't they make it go to auction to make more money? It was my understanding that if there were multiple backorders there would be a private auction... but don't have first hand experience with that. They're some decent names you got, I am sure you would have paid a lot more for them via private sales.

I can't say I'm 100% sure but here are the facts:

    1) I've captured 28 domains via godaddy and have never been placed in a private auction.
    2) Around 400 times a domain I scouted said "back order not available".
    3) I have read about private auctions at Godaddy - but I'm not sure how this works and have never experienced one.

Can I ask you something else mate about this?

What if the expiring domain is at a godaddy sponsored registrar do you have a chance of picking it up with a backorder?

I'm not sure, I did this a lot until late 2010 and the only domains I picked up via this method (cheap Godaddy back order) were ones that were registered at Godaddy, had no backorders, were not expired yet but would be expiring soon.
