    Question Favicon's That Don't Load

I'm sure everyone has noticed this at some point (whether on your own sites or on others) but what is the deal with favicons that aren't always displayed?

Sometimes it seems like you have a 50/50 chance of actually seeing a favicon when loading a page that you KNOW has one. And to make things even more confusing, sometimes simply refreshing the page fixes the issue, so it seems unlikely that this is caused by an actual code-based error.

All I can come up with at the moment is that it may be related to your connection speed. Maybe your browser skips the favicon (although extremely tiny) to help load the page faster.

I know it doesn't really matter, but it is aggravating to put time into a finishing touch like that, and know that some readers will never see it, and I'm sure someone out there knows the real reason (and possibly a solution).

I've never had trouble with them Chuck. Sounds like a browser issue. I use Firefox, other browsers I can't say. I've got malware which has hijacked my search with IE anyway and as experienced as I am with this crap I wasn't able to get rid of it with any utilities I own so I gave up on it and prefer Firefox anyway.

I use Firefox as well and have ran into this a few times. Also, a lot of times my Favorites on the top of Firefox have the wrong favicons listed for a while - they always sort themselves out though.

Yeah, I'm on a Mac so it definitely isn't an IE issue. Only using Firefox.

Is it only not showing up sometimes on YOUR computer? Check it out on a different computer that doesn't have your site saved in its cache.

I had this problem as well but once I cleared my browser history, temp files etc, it never happened again

It happens to me on firefox. Sometimes I visit pokerstars for example and the favicon for my site bookmark becomes Stars symbol.
