Default It's that time - March Madness Pool Discussion

    Ladies & Gentleman,

The NFL Season is officially over in 11 days. So the time has come to move on to March Madness. As you guys know, PAL always runs the BEST sports pools for our members here. I have an idea that I would like to run by you all and get your feedback.

Obviously we will be doing the March Madness Brackets again for PAL members, and as always they will be FREE to get in. My goal is to have $1500 sponsored into the prize pool. However, because most of you suck at brackets......... (I can say this because I took 3rd last year). I would like to introduce a new element!

We will do the standard NCAA Brackets with a $1000 prize pool. Payouts of 70/20/10.

But I'd like to throw the other $500 at something new, An NCAA Survivor Pool where the sole winner takes all $500.

Now I realize that with as many players as we get here that there is a possibility that there could be multiple survivors after the championship game.

Solution: In the event there are multiple survivors, instead of splitting money, lets end it on the virtual felt. Should there be multiple survivors, whichever poker site sponsors the 2012 NCAA PAL March Madness, we will host a poker game on their site strictly for the survivors where the winner takes all!

Personally I am really looking forward to March Madness and want to mix it up a bit, as well as give some of you scrubs the opportunity to have......yes..... 2 chances to cash!

Let me know your thoughts and I will start finding sponsors and getting it set-up for us.

If doing the survivor pool it looks there is a setting for each round or each day. For sure I suggest doing each day option to reduce the number of survivors.

I'm impartial but do think the poker tournament at the end is probably a hassle for some. A suggestion I have for the tie breaker in case you want to use it would be something like this. Each person still in it for the championship answers:

1.Which team will score the first basket?
2.Which team will shoot the first free throw?
3.Which team will score last in the first half?
    4. Will the total score at the end of the first half be odds or evens.

Best record of above breaks the tie. (tie breaker is decided by half time so people know if they are eliminated). This would super simple to grade in an excel spread sheet (enter 1 or 0, score populates - then sort, and take a list of top scores).

If still tied then answer to question:

How many points will be scored in the game (enter exact #).
Closest wins. Chances are this won't even get used - scoring best on the first questions plus need for their team to win probably decides it, but this is pretty conclusive tie break at end. If through all this there is still a tie, then yeah just chop it (that's unlikely though).

Anyways just a thought so people can participate and not need to play a couple hours of poker at the end which would be inevitable. 50 entrants there will near certainly be multiple survivors.

Perhaps everyone else loves the idea of poker at the end. Just my suggestions here fwiw.
If you're going to bet US Sports online - I strongly suggest 5Dimes.com or Bookmaker.eu.

Some succeed because they are destined to, but most succeed because they are determined to.

I don't mind either tiebreaker... Looking forward to trying to win one of these PAL Pools lol...

Another way you could end a tiebreaker after the championship game if several people predicted the champion is by adding up the seeds of each pick you made and the player with the highest total would win (Rewards you for taking chances in the early rounds on low seeded teams)...
