Default Mosesbet.com, Poker > Sports Betting Future - Discuss

Hi Everyone, here's a thread that should take everyone back in time

Basically right now, I'm making 0 money from my first ever site, Mosesbet.com, which is aimed at Poker Tournament Strategy. It gets good traffic, has good authority backlinks etc, but I'm tired of sitting on it and doing nothing. I'm not sure if I'd want to sell it in the future either since I don't think I'd get a good price based on the domain.

I've had a lot more success in sports betting/finance then I ever did in poker, so I was wondering what all your thoughts were on turning this into a sports betting site instead, and focusing on that niche and adding like 50+ articles etc.

I was actually just looking for a brandable .com sports betting domain (e.g. TotalBet.com), and I completely forgot that I still had MosesBet.com in my locker. This domain also seems more practical for a betting site then a poker site.

I guess I just want your opinion on whether you think MosesBet.com is an OK brand for a sports betting website? This site has been by FAR my biggest failure, but I've learned a ton from it (making 15+ profitable sites since then) and it would feel pretty awesome to expand it now, update it and monetise it through sports betting. Just by changing the niche/theme/main content I think I could get this site from making $50/month - $1k+/month.

I would keep all existing poker content on the site FYI.

    Thanks,

    Adam

If this was a great brand for a tournament poker strategy site, then of course this is also a great brand for betting, it has even "bet" in the URL.
Go ahead and add a betting section, this will be much easier than if you start with the same content on a new site, as Mosesbet is an established website.

It looks like a really nice site I like it a lot but I don't think the name works at all. I would keep the site but move it to a new domain. I picked up the domain PlayHoldem.net a couple days ago and I think even a domain like that would be 100 times better then MosesBet.com. Although I usually don't like using a .net for a "brandble" type site. I used to own the domain HoldemShark.com and sold it to someone here a while ago and it looks like its still not developed so maybe look into that is a great brandable domain. Or try to get a 2 word brandable .com domain with one of the words being strategy or tournament.

Anyway those are just some ideas but I either way I love the site just not the domain I think you should try moving the whole site to a new domain.

And as for turning it into a sports betting site I'm not a big fan of the domain for that either.

My advice which isn't worth a lot but I would say.

Move the poker content to a new domain and then find another better brandble domain for a sports betting site and 301 mosesbet to the poker site.

By the way I don't mean to sound like a douche so sorry if it comes off that way but I've been drinking all day. Anway I just don't get the domain MosesBet I think you could find something a lot more brandable.

Your advice is cool Stocks, always like to hear other people's opinions.

I think I'm done with the poker strategy niche though. I have my eye on a fairly nice betting domain which I might 301 the site too and turn it into a betting site. I agree the domain isn't very good and I'll always keep my eyes out for something better down the line.

Would it be possible to move all the content to a new poker domain and 301 mosesbet to your new betting domain?

I think that would be a good option aswell. You would have a great poker site that you could easily sell for a pretty good price. I think all that good poker content would be wasted on a betting site.

Nah, I don't want to be too drastic. I'd leave all the poker content up there until I find something clever to do and I'm settled with my long term plans.

FYI, the content is wasted anyway since it's impossible to monetise!

Is the 'Moses' part meant to refer to something biblical? I just don't understand the brand name and what Moses is meant to refer to

You could make the "moses" the name of some sort of mascot and brand the site around that. Maybe a lizard or something.

Even though the name is weird, I will say this - I never forget the name after seeing it just once and it's always sort of stuck in my head as a name I recognize (certainly far more than a generic EMD).

The backlink profile is valuable and would be valid for a sportsbetting site, imo. I think it is an interesting use of an otherwise sunk cost.
