I remember seeing a thread a few months ago where their legal department sent a threatening letter so someone who had Poker Strategy" in their url - Do these guys serious think nobody can have Pokerstrategy in their domain name? LOL

So if anyone has a contact to someone there, please PM me or something.

I know this issue of their "legal department" sending C&D letters to people who have the words "Poker Strategy" has come up before, but I wasn't able to find the old threads. Does anyone know who was involved, or can anyone find the old threads?

    Thanks guys!

Thanks I had a few people send me some contact info. I'm really not too worried about it, sorta annoyed more than anything.vI would think people would have better things to do. Waste of everyone's time IMO

I wonder how many domains they have been able to take (or many would say steal) from people with this behavior. Maybe it is time to start applying pressure to their partners to not do business with an affiliate that thinks they can claim copyright to a common non branded phrase, then try to bully ignorant people into surrendering their domains. I have to think this has worked in the past or else they would not still be trying it.

I own many domains with that phrase in it. I can't wait to hear from these guys. I guess they troll whois all day looking for domains to try and coerce people into surrendering. This is a lesson as to why you brand yourself, not try to use a keyword for a long term business idea. You cannot control your URLs if you try to use a keyword solely as your brand.

I can't believe they are still doing this crap. I think it's disgusting, but it's becoming common practice anymore. I just had to fight off some lawyers from a ceiling fan company trying to take HunterxHunterFan.com from me (HunterxHunter is an anime that I watch and was going to build a fan site). Good luck with your battle Randy, but I'm certain you will show them who's boss

Ah well thankfully I have good friends who are lawyers, and I mean it's what they are wasting their time on. Prettty sad to me they are even brash enough to try and trademark a phrase like that. What would they do if Poker.com decided that they were running PokerStrategy.com in "Bad Faith"? My guess is they would laugh it off.

Especially with a very generic phrase. I do agree with Pokeraddict and I think that is what got me so annoyed. I know how so many people just wilt when mention of legal action is involved, and having spent so much of my life working with lawyers in the corporate world. I get super frustrated when I see people being bullied. Now I have to admit over my career I was one of the bullies, and worked for bullies. That's also one of the reasons I found a new career

I'm sure this is just poor judgement by their legal team, but it's obviously what the game is here. For every guy like me who is willing to battle it out and even spend money to make a point, there are probably 10 webmasters who would rather just not deal with it and transfer their domain. So I would imagine its just a #'s game for them.

    Reply From PokerStrategy.com
    Hi Randy,

I need to be looking into this so you will need to give me a few days please. I cannot say what I am going to be able to do but will speak to our CEO and legal team next week about this.
Well J gave me contact info for someone, the email I got back just makes me shake my head. I think I need to change the title of this thread to PokerStrategy.com SCAM
Now I've never been one to grip about whatever paid sponsors we have on PAL, but I know they pay and we all need to make money. So if Jeremy needs to change the title or w/e I'm cool with that.

But the level of unethical behavior regarding this issue is disgusting.

Im confused about getting so upset about this when there is no legitimacy to their implied ownership of a generic phrase. Its just as stupid as the whole mac poker site trying to claim ownership of mac poker domains. Its an affiliate site for Pete's sake. WORTHLESS in the grand scheme of things. Don't be so intimidated.
