Experience with Buydomains.com?

Recently I bought a domain at Buydomains.com for a solid price. They said it takes 7 - 10 business days and I did not hear anything after 2 weeks. They say escrow team is processing the sale. Now I asked the owner of this domain directly and he said the domain is not for sale. Is Buydomains just a scam or what's wrong there? They really seemed legit to me and I was very happy with that domain. Is there anybody who had the same experience with them?

I've had multiple positive transactions with them, but sounds like what you got here was an old listing that hasn't been updated (common on SEDO as well) where the domain got sold at some point outside of buydomains (probably direct) and they never informed buydomains, or something like that.

Not unheard of - but basically sounds like seller isn't transferring domain to them, which means you'll get your money refunded without hassle. Sorry about the bum news.

Ye I've had similar stuff at Sedo when I bought a domain for the BIN listed price but it never got trasnferred.

Thanks guys, that was my impression as well. Never had it on Sedo though.
But it doesn't look very good when they don't contact you for over 2 weeks. When it's an old listing and they can't transfer the domain, why do they wait that long? I'd have no problems when they say "sorry, domain is not for sale anymore" after 2 days. Then you at least know what's going on.

Just a quick update: They just told me that they have not been aware that the old owner did not own it any longer and they will make a refund. But why does it take over 2 weeks to find out? Not sure if I buy another domain from them, did consume a lot of time.

I never thought Buydomains.com and solid price would be used in the same sentence But yeah, they are defo not scammers, they own one of the largest domain portfolios.

Because it's mainly an automated process probably.

The beauty of internet businesses is that they are mostly scalable - that is to say that you can set up automated processes to do most of the work - and you can grow 5x, 10x, 20x your volume without doing much more work (until something goes wrong).

Here - you submit the offer - they send an email to the old owner (who may ignore it, or reply or whatever) but whatever happens the old owner does not accept the offer (because he no longer owns it).

Unless that situation was planned for - I'd expect that process to repeat a few times (sale offer emails resent) - according to canned scripts - before human intervention FINALLY comes in.

You did the right thing in escalating it to their support for someone to look at the situation - otherwise you would probably still be waiting.

Nothing but positive experiences with them. Always call and talk to a sales rep, as they will negotiate on price. I've never paid their listed price.

I asked them if they have some more domains in this niche that are available, really need a good EM domain there. No reply.
I'm waiting for the refund over one week now, this works faster with CC afaik.
Overall, not a good experience and even though they aren't scammers they act not very professionally imo.
