When the site load, my eyes went straight to it. People are use to seeing billboards and always try to read them. (Well at least I do) So it was normal for me to first like at it before looking at the rest of the site. Great way to draw people in.

The big brand names are spending a lot of money on interactive video type ads these days.

These two are pretty cool.

I'm sure you could find someone on rentacoder.com or elance.com who could replicate these types of creatives without selling the farm.

Anyone seen bubbletweets or whatever? I hate that type of stuff but I can see the potential in using it in the future.

Many of these ads remind me of the pop-ups and auto-play ads with voice narrative that are invasive to a site visitor.
Bluffmagazine.com has that huge top-level hidden banner that causes the whole page to move down and assault you with the ad that I really despise.
Not sure if the conversions and click-throughs are better on these more invasive ads, but I would assume most site users and consumers would be put-off by the in-your-face approach that is employed.

Yeh I guess Microsoft, Jaguar, Audi , Coca Cola, Disney and McDonalds don't have a clue then it comes to online advertising. LOL
Believe me people...... nothing will destroy your marketing efforts faster then this.
Believing that everyone should, or does think the same way you do.
Because they do not.
Obviously you want the average site visitor to read your content, become a fan, recommend to friends and follow your affiliate links.
But "invasive ads" have their place on every site .... get the click and the sale before they leave to the competition.
Be creative.... be really creative and don't listen to the negative.
You'll never know what could happen unless you try.
When I was a kid, a guy sold "pet rocks" worldwide for $6.99 each and made millions over night.
A plain rock in a box with a 10 page book on how to take care of it.
Brilliant marketing.

That's like saying that because everyone jumped on the bandwagon for giving mortgages to people who couldn't possibly pay for them, that was the right thing to do also, and look at the mess we're in.
Just because everyone is doing something doesn't make it right, good or whatever other adjective you'd like to throw in there.
Bottom line with me, is that I'd rather find ways to make advertising more organic and flow naturally with a sites content, than slam visitors with pop-ups, peel-downs, drop-downs and all sorts of other annoying ways to assault your viewers.

Yeah I am pretty sure that if all of those big companies are using those ads, that they are working. The amount of effort, research and analysis that goes into their campaigns is massive. The ads may seem annoying to you, but the fact is that they work. They accomplish the goals, and they probably do it better than most other ways. Otherwise why would these companies be doing it?
You think they haven't tested out other methods? They are not idiots. They got where they are today for a reason.
The mortgage thing is a terrible comparison. That is not what its like at all. Yes Just because all of those companies are taking advantage of those ads. That is exactly what makes it good. It works. If it didn't they wouldn't be using them.
If you need Casino Reviews, I probably have the one(s) you're looking for.
Well, for one, advertisers want to get the greatest exposure possible, so if they could occupy 90% of a page with their listing they'd probably take it.
What I'm saying is that it's always a good idea to consider your visitors as well as your advertisers.
Strike a balance so that advertisements are done in a way that is more informational and appreciated by members, rather than just trying to jump in front of people screaming
"hey, look at me, click me!"
Of course, it also depends on the goal of the ad campaign. Some advertisers are looking for conversions/sales. So the ad should be done in a way that will be seen as beneficial to the viewer, enough that they'll click through and make a purchase.
On the other hand, some advertisers are more interested in brand recognition campaigns, where they aren't selling you anything right this second, but want you to remember their brand/product so when you're somewhere else you'll consider it (i.e. a restaurant or soft drink would be good examples here)
