Requirements for Google News

Hi there,

I know there's no way to offically submit a site to be included in Google News, but I was hoping that those of you who have had a site accepted into the news portal might shed some light on a few things that you think helped get you there.

I'm assuming that your site needed to be regularly updated, but how long was your site live before it got included. Are there any other things that you think Google looks for when choosing stories to index?

Seems a big task getting on google news, I know Lenny on here has great success with it though, I regularly see his site in the top news stories

Dont think it matters how long you have been online, They just want to see that the site has more then one news writer, thats why they ask for a directory of contributers.

Hmm, so I've applied for Google news and been rejected on the basis that they only include content from places

that could be considered organizations, generally characterized by availability of organizational information, and accessible contactinformation.

Has anyone got any ideas on exactly what sort of organizational information they're looking for?

I've had a look at various other affiliate sites that I know have been included in Google News and their contact page consists of a WP form, which is pretty much what I've got on my site.

Is that not enough though? Do you think replacing it with a direct email address would help? What kind of organizational information are they looking for?

You should have an About US page and a Privacy Policy posted. You want several point's of view represented, thus the reason for having several writers. You can and should submit your site. You're probably not going to get in if you don't.

You probably WILL get denied the first .. few.. times you apply, but they're very forthcoming with reasons and insight as to why .

I do actually have a Privacy Policy posted up on the site (although Google News didn't ask me for the URL, it is accesible through a footer link), and I've also posted up an 'editors' page that gives a very brief bio of the contributing authors ... maybe that needs to be longer??

They seem to have an issue with the company itself and the contact details though. That's why I was thinking of posting up a direct email address or even a postal address.

How did you handle the whole 'company information' thing if you don't mind me asking?

Honestly though, how I handled it was pretty simple.. They said we didn't represent several pov's, i said yeah we do. Told them how many of us there are, and that each person is entitled to their own pov, we were approved within a few weeks, without reapplying .. just because we responded that one time I believe.
