Redirected related domain, Value?

I got a question where i can't get a clear answer for.

Lets say my domain is 123poker.com

And there is a subdirectory for pokernews. So 123poker/pokernews.
Would it be intresting to buy 123pokernews.com and redirect them.

Does it have any value, and would it be interesting to promote the 123pokernews.com domain. (for example, post the link in articles)

I think redirections have only value if:

1. have a PR what will develop your rating
2. have a good position in the search engines
3. have lots of direct traffic

Otherwise I think it is not worth the effort and time.

Edit: Misread op question.

In any case, I wouldn't go overboard with this. Doesn't exactly look too natural to me, more like link manipulation/blackhat technique.
