Default Going about achieving your goals

I've just been reading through one of Kevin's blog posts about how he hit personal bests for month's revenue at the beginning of the year, and it got me wondering how people go about acheiving their targets.

A lot of people on the fourm mention that they have targets they want to hit (Kevin mentions that he wants to be making about $5k a month by the summer), but I'm curious as to how people go about that acheiving goals like this.
    • Do you simply concentrate on starting up more sites?
    • Is it religiously adding fresh content to your existing sites?
    • Purchasing links to improve placement of current sites?
    • All of the above?
    • Something totally different??!

It's a question that I originally asked on Kevin's blog but I wanted to open it up to the forum. What do you change in your daily working methods to try and achieve a specific goal?

I hope that makes sense, as I'm really interested in pushing on.

    Interesting question Shortstack... personally have very detailed business plans and measurements in place. When it comes to achieving goals I work backwards from a 'big picture future' then put together the steps to get there in actionable format. so;

What will your business look like when it is making you $50k a month or even $100k?

Write it down on a piece of paper, then list out what would need to be in place to get there... then break these down into achievable goals / timeframes.

For me the trouble with aiming for small goals is that one can become too focused on the increments... likewise the trouble with measuring only productivity is that you can end up missing opportunities to change direction if your X amount of work / sites / link exchanges is not doing the trick.

    Anyway, just my random musings!

    Cheers, Mark

Assuming that Google already knows about your site - and that you have some level of traffic then it's CONTENT, CONTENT, CONTENT in my book.

I think it really matters on what works, or what you have found that works. If all you are doing is creating new content but not networking with others in the industry, you may not be seeing as good of results if you were doing both.

I think most people find what works for them and then stick to that. Some people may just buy links while others may create content, like Gooner. Some may do a little of both.

I think you have to test and see what works for you the best and then work to maximize that. You should test many different marketing techniques and gauge the results.

After several years, you will have a great business model on which to grow on. Just be sure to leave room for changes as every business model changes over time.

    Mark
