Blog Hacked

Well I just found out that my blog was hacked and I figured I had lost everything since I never made a backup. Fortunately Blue Host made regular backups of everything so nothing should be lost...I will find out in the next hour.

I am not very familiar with WP, is there something I should install to help prevent hacking?

Props to BlueHost.com! They backed up my site without a request from me. I called and got a live person in roughly 1 minute and my site was restored just minutes later. Nice work Blue Host!

Make sure the WP version you're using is up-to-date. There was a big exploit found not too long ago that's caused a lot of hackings.

I was hacked with version 2.8.4, which I believe is the latest version.

You had better change your site structure and all pw's and user id's. Don't forget your db user id and pw in wp_config.

I would move your site to a subfolder too, if it is not already in one.

I had got hacked during a new template upload with wordpress blog...Lost my blog and forum both (everything that was hosted on the server). And dumb old me didn't have a thing backed up. Had to start all over.

Learned a valuable lesson, and it also reminded me that I still have an awful lot to learn yet ! lol
