Is it really that difficult to protect a database against theft?
Admittedly I don't know that much about how gaming sites operate, but to me it seems like very few people would ever need unrestricted access to a database with player information.

I think some of you are looking at this from the wrong perspective.
No player in the world would be signing up anywhere anytime soon if they thought their personal details would be made available elsewhere to the highest bidder.
Just another example of the house of cards this whole industry is built on and why strict government regulation is desperately needed.
The fact some of you support and condone this practice is absolutely abhorrent.
Main stream media will have a field day with this, with identity theft such a major crime issue and these morons helping facilitate it.
In the US, this is extremely common for all industries.
The phone company themselves will generally sell your info if you do not request a private number. I know because a few months ago I made that mistake and got Banks, Furniture companies, cleaning services and so forth all welcoming to Las Vegas via telephone. 40 calls or so per day till i just unplugged the phone.
Cell phone employees also sell their databases as well to their competitors. A friend of mine (back when being an independent phone rep was profitable) made a lot purchasing a list that included what type of phone the customer had bought and the date the persons cell phone contract would expire.
While I'll admit identity theft is a serious concern for real victims, its still much more of a media jargon term used to cell insurance and products and grab cheap headlines then the true size of the problem. That's just my opinion of course.
If you're going to bet US Sports online - I strongly suggest 5Dimes.com or Bookmaker.eu.
Some succeed because they are destined to, but most succeed because they are determined to.
I wonder what the privacy policies of these companies look like?

Well just look at the double standards.
There were those on here that had the lynch mobs out when it was suspected an affiliate program or forum had sold their membership directory that had far less personal detail on it than these lists : Are people really this stupid?
And yet some think it is acceptable to trade in the personal information of the very people we refer to these sites?

I'd say trading in that information is a pretty clear breach.
FTP is run by weasels, they are incompetent scoundrels. Undoubtedly they once had everything in order, but now they are so far ahead of the other sites that they don't care about screwing people over. Whats one player/affiliate lost to them? They don't care because another one is always waiting.
Hey Hazo,
Looks like my post got picked up by 2+2. You got a link in the thread as well.

Very tough to protect a database but use to regularly seed databases where it was least expected and should that email/phone number be contacted out of the blue then I know the security has been compromised.
I actually ended up catching a very close employee taking data from me while I was working for a sportsbook and when I comfronted them I got excuse after excuse and they never admitted wrong doing even though red handed.
