Question What does a successful affiliate company's org chart look like?

There are so many successful corporations out there that one would assume that most of them have been planned properly and operate on some sort of system. I'm curious about what their organization structure actually looks like.

If you were to develop an org chart for one of these successful businesses, what would it look like?

Here's mine, what am I missing?

    Board of Directors
    -President
    --VP of Finance
    ---Finance Manager
    ----Accountant (outsourced)
    ----Bookkeeper
    ----Administrative Assistant
    --VP of Marketing
    ---SEO Manager
    ----Pay Per Click Technician
    ----Off site optimization Technician
    ----On site optimization Technician
    ---Marketing Manager
    ----Marketing Assistant
    ----Analytics Technician
    --VP of Operations
    ---Website Maintenance & Development Manager
    ----Webmaster
    ---Content Development Manager (Editor)
    ----Writer

    ---Operations Manager

I believe that most are one or two man shows. It may take a lot of work, but you aren't running Wal-Mart here.

I work with lotsa really successful affiliates, and I'd disagree. Though many are 1/2 man shows, and many start that way..

I'd add in some Project Management for new project development there and (critically) some Internal Business Controls... probably with a separate dotted line to the boss. Maybe also some international coordination (translations etc) and graphic design skills.

    Interesting thought process BTW.

    Cheers, Mark

    Lightbulb

Your org chart is good ... but I'd be amazed if it's matched by more than 1-2% of affiliates ...

Mine is probably more accurate :

    - Jack of all Trades (owner / founder)

(which includes about 80% of the functions you listed but without the management overhead ... or sleep)

    LOL you guys.... LOL!

Just because the org chart has all of these job titles in it doesn't mean that there is a different person's name for each one. In fact, the entire organization could be one person.

The purpose behind it is to apply the org chart when you do decide that the workload is getting a bit too heavy. Then you can bring somebody in and easily identify where they should go (the most inefficient job is where I like to start). Get somebody in there doing the book keeping while you do the high level work!

As a businessman, I strongly believe that you should always plan a new business with a detailed org chart and job descriptions as if you were a $10 million company. You may or may not believe it, but it's easier to make $10 million than $1 million. The reasoning behind this is because to achieve a $10 million business it must be scalable, whereas a $1 million business can be achieved by sheer luck.

Planet Mark, great suggestions! I'll definitely be adding some of those! Does anybody have any more?
