Hi all,
Is there any reliable data somewhere on what percent of total online poker players signed up through an affiliate, and what percent signed up directly on the site? I'm very curious and can't seem to find it anywhere.
Thanks in advance!

Doubt anyone has legit public data on that.

If you're going to bet US Sports online - I strongly suggest 5Dimes.com or Bookmaker.eu.
Some succeed because they are destined to, but most succeed because they are determined to.
Take a look at PartyGaming's financial statements, they should help! It's going to vary from room to room but generally I'd say 20-40% of RMPs are brought in by affiliates. For FullTilt you have two separate percentages: the % of RMPs that signup under affiliates, and the % of RMPs that affiliates get paid for (thanks to their BS retroactive 60day clause which is pure affiliate rape)
One of the larger programs told me at BAC that their traffic was 60/40 (60-affiliates).
I'm guessing with a room like FullTilt it's like 20% since they a. advertise heavy and b. pinch

They relied on affiliates for getting the word out in the early days and lured them in with the promise of residual income for life. Now they change their terms so regularly that affiliates are marginalized. Then you throw in ESPN's WSOP covered players, and Full Tilt's constant promotions in MMA matches, and affiliates are less needed than they once were.
I don't know what the data is, but smaller rooms need affiliates as brand builders and bigger rooms still need affs as feeders to keep the player base fresh, but not as brand builders.
wow I honestly wouldnt be taking anything other than a wild stab at a figure but
IMHO if Tony's figure of 60% affiliates is even close to right - that really says alot about how sucky the poker rooms business savvy is ...
I mean if we're bringing in 60% of valuable players you would think they would treat us all better
thinking on PL etc and now the biggest RB providers etc will be bringing in the bulk of that so maybe the programs actually DO look after the right people
IMHO its going to vary wildy based on need - if the program doesnt really need us - eg. Stars, Tilt then I'm guessing that will be reflected in the % of players we actually get them in relation to how much their advertising and brand brings in alone
I guess the other programs will be getting alot more from us and therefore not be able to get by without us
for 60% to work maybe its that 50% comes from the small handful of uber affiliate sites, 10% from the rest and 40% from direct
otherwise they wouldnt be able to pull 60 day rules etc

It likely varies a great deal from room to room. Like Stars, FTP, Party and others who spend loads on advertising probably have less than 25% of their players signup through affiliates - however most of the rakeback/vip/loyalty driven iPoker/OnGame/Entraction skins probably have >75% of their players sent from affiliates, if you count the affiliate sites which are owned by the owners of the skins.
