Default Using Twitter to run a Poker league

I saw a pretty clever technique today on a Spanish portal that ran poker leagues that is worth sharing. They are using Twitter as a messaging system and calendar for players in their poker league. The tweets come across as reminders, when in fact they double as sign up links (obv). It’s a really nice system and a pretty practical example of using Twitter for more than just blatant spam. The tournament points are posted on their site; but for times and dates they force people to go to Twitter.

I checked the app they're using to facilitate this and it looks pretty cool as well. It allows you to postdate and pre-record messages so you can basically fill in the entire league ahead of time and then watch it fill in as tweets throughout the season. They drop cool things in there as well, other than just event times. Nice social media marketing.

    You rang?

A cool technique I use on the TPT Schedule page is a "Share" button that will send the details to Twitter so that the members can spread the word out as well.

    Schedule | Twitter Poker Tour

For scheduled Tweets I use HootSuite which seems to be very similar to Twuffer.

In my case, all of my players are on Twitter so when they click the Twitter button on the schedule page they are brought to the twitter website with their "tweet" prefilled with the details of the event. When they submit the tweet, everyone who follows them will see the message.

The link that Greg posted is a site that you can queue up tweets to send out at a later time. I think you can also set it up to send messages on a recurring basis. Again, whoever follows you on twitter will see those messages.
