Default Geeko Promotions wants to place an article on my site, offering $

First I must say that I am rather a newbie in the affiliate marketing business with only three months of experience.

I was contacted today from the German branch of Geeko Promotions (xxx.geeko-promotions.com). They would like to place an article on my poker strategy site with a link to the customer (a leading poker and casino portal, I don't know the which).

Up to now, my site consists only of articles that I have written by myself: high-quality poker strategy articles (in German).

I told them that I have three conditions that must be met before I can think about posting an article from them:
    1) It must be an article that is of high quality and that offers value added to the reader
    2) It must be a unique article (exclusively published on my site in German)
    3) It must be related to poker strategy

Unexpectedly, they answered me that their article would meet these conditions and they asked my for the price (without asking how much traffic I get btw).

I have never received such a request before. So my question to you affiliate pros is - what would you consider me to do?

It sounds like they basically want to buy a link for their client.

There are a lot of threads about link sales in the marketplace, which may be worth checking out to get a decent idea of what links "usually" cost.

If I were you I would just decide on an amount I would be happy with selling a link for, and then ask them to pay that. It is your site, so if it would mean a lot to you to have their article with a link on there, and you aren't hurting for money, then you should just go ahead and ask for 1000$ and their first born son

If you on the other hand would like to get some money right now, so you can invest it in your site, then it would make a lot of sense to sell it fairly cheap.

Also - How long will the link/article stay live? If your site starts to dip in serps, or in pr, and you want to make some changes to fix it... if you've sold a link, you won't be able to just remove it.

Oftentimes ppl will also pay monthly for links like this. I know $20 isn't a whole lotta money, but if it's $20 per month, and there's three links.. it starts adding up .

A forever link on a strong site, with pr, in german, has to have some value. Especially if it's a site that doesn't generally sell links.

    Thank you for your tips!

I am not in this business to make a quick buck; and even though I almost make no money yet, I don't want to spoil my main site with a crappy article or with a link to a bad neighbourhood for 20$/month.

So I will probably do as UW said - ask for a price that I am happy with (1k$) and I will see what happens :-)

Personally i see no issue with an article that fits with your high quality content.

It will be a link from an internal page too, so i see no real issue there as the article is likely to be representative of your site and the link in it will be representative of the article!

In my mind it is money for old rope and money paid to you for a service that you have recieved in a way! i.e they are paying you to carry an article that a good many would pay to have under different circumstances.

Certainly, i would sell on a periodic basis as opposed to permanent.
