    We can say there are 2 types of players:
    - regulars: who likes pokerstars and keep on coming back; these guys easily break 250 FPP, they climb the VIP ladder, these are the ones stars want; on average theses guys make WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY more than 250 FPPs.
    - one-timers: these try online poker once (or say Stars once), make a small deposit, lose it, do not come back; these people will earn 50, 100, 200,300 FPPs; something like that.

    So think about it:
    by making these change, they are just putting the bar higher for the "one-timers"; in statistics, this is called a truncated distribution; and the math are highly simple: they are openly stealing from us;

    if they make a change in their promotions, it will not really affect the one timers; it will mostly affect the regulars, and therefore have no benefit to us, only to them;

    so this new VIP system which will make players play more is total bs as far as fairly compensating affiliates is concerned.

    It is very simple, tell them that if they are not ready to change the rules back in your case you will drop them. The important thing here is to actually drop them if they want to screw you. You guys can be sure as hell that not everyone has the same deal when it comes to CPA requirements and how much they get paid for their players.

    This is just speculation: Around the time that pokerstars changed these CPA rules several big sites began giving them more exposure, do you think they would have done this if they had worsened their deals? Or do you think they would have done this if they would be compensated for doing this in order to convince the smaller affiliates that if the big guys are still advertising Stars I should also be doing it even with the worse rules.

    PokerStars is obviously run by extremely smart people and when they do moves like this they will obviously think through the possible scenarios and only pull the trigger if they are sure that they will make more money in the long run with the move.

    This was pretty much a win-win move for them. If the situation gets very heated stars simply changes the rules back to as they were and people on forums will be writing things like "this really proves why pokerstars is the biggest online company, they listen to their players and affiliates, I'm going to give them more exposure and drop full tilt poker because of their idiotic 60 day rules".

    I have been on rev share for awhile and like I have said in past threads it has been less then ideal. I have made much more sending players to other poker rooms. It looks like the CPA deal with Poker Stars is on track to have a similar fate.

    PSP will be down for a bit tomorrow. Hopefully they came to their senses and realized how utterly stupid this whole thing is. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

    At first, I was a little pissed at this move - but 3 days into Feb, i've moved Pokerstars to the bottom of my sites and not allocated any budget to them this month ( after all, some of my visitors still want PS, so I should still offer it to them ) and guess what - overall i'm making more money.

    The sites I've put in place of PS are converting better, so its a little like a cloud with a silver lining.

    In some ways, its the Aff Managers I actually feel sorry for - Carly is a great Aff Manager, and as is the norm, the decisions will have been made at a higher level and the Aff Managers have to carry the can.

    I wonder what will happen going forward - I for one will probably end up sending about 5-10 CPA qualified players per month, whereas I was sending between 50-70 a month - if that ratio is carried across the board, then surely Stars will feel the difference?

    Just a question for some of you. Why can't you just start promoting another room other than pokerstars on your site if you do not like the new terms?

    Is your keywords or traffic relying on pokerstars as a keyword? Is Pokerstars so much better at converting clicks to players than other rooms?

    Just curious.

    Everyone's reason is likely different. Most of my sites are focused on specific poker games. I figured this would give me a lot of flexibility but unfortunately it puts me in the same situation as affiliates that rank for Pokerstars terms. It would be pretty hard to convert Stud players on the Cake Network or mixed game players on the Merge Network..ect. If I only promoted FTP I would lose revenue, which I might be able to live with, but I'd also be putting all of my eggs in one basket. I guess I'm just SOL no matter what I do. I might as well start focusing on bonus code sites.

    Good post Roger, I ran Pokerstars as a feature on my websites last month and did some good numbers. I usually like to pus players to Full Tilt more because of the better conversion rate (and rakeback)

    I was reluctant to share them but since OBP and a few others did I will. Also, to me LOW quality players would be signups that never deposit. The numbers some people have show me usually has a good SU to deposit ratio, but the CPA qualified ratio is very very low.

    I think it is important to note is beyond the affiliates control. We send the players and convince them to deposit, past that the poker room must take some responsibility.

    Anyway, that's my two sense and here is my Jan 2010 CPA Only #'s -

    WOW Just shocking. Sending 139 RMPs to Full Tilt would have netted me personally around $3900 (using numbers from the past year), compared to the $1575 you would have gotten for 21 CPA's at PokerStars.
