It's not easy to contact people through those privacy services. I usually find that the email addresses are long and embedded in a graphic when I do a "whois". If I take the time to type in all those characters to contact someone, I'm serious about needing to contact them.
BTW -- a U.S. court recently ruled that these private registration services constitute "material falsification" (which is a crime). I am waiting to see if anyone is charged with that offense for using anonymous registration.
The court ruling was part of a decision dealing with another issue -- all it does (so far as I understand these matters) is lay down a precedent that can be referred to in later judicial proceedings (either civil or criminal).
