Which translation service do you think is better

If you just have a few paragraphs of text you need translated, and dont want to hire a translater would you rather use google translator or bable fish?

I wouldn't use them; your readers will bounce... but, if you absolutely have no other choice, go for Google Translate.

I just tested them both now by translating a short paragraph in French and Spanish. The Bable Fish one doesn't make any sense. The Google Translate one, while not great, is better (it actually knows how to translate poker).

If you're going to do this, follow the suggestion that was given by Mark I believe - put a disclaimer on the translated page, saying something like

"This is a temporary Google Translation, a real translation is coming in the future, but in the meantime, you can also read the original English version of this page"

And put a link to the English page. That way your foreign visitors might not feel too insulted and you might actually be able to get some conversions instead of them just browsing away.

If it is a short paragraph and a 1 time thing see if someone can translate for you in exchange for another favour.
