Creating an Affiliate Site Blog Series

I decided to start a blog over at CAL about the way I create an affiliate site from start to finish. I will also be posting full details on my traffic results and even revenue results with screenshots.

Thought this would be cool to do, it might help newer affiliates, and I will always be asking for comments/critique/help throughout for anyone who can help chime in.

Just had a read through your blog and found a few things interesting. I will say that I have kept away from SEO & affiliate type forums for a couple of years as I prefer not to do what everybody else is doing plus I have several sites that I use to test new techniques on which keep me thinking.

I also know very little about US sports so please feel free to shoot me down?

Firstly the topic of your site, does this only occur in March? Will your traffic die a death in other months? Are you making your site too limited?

As I said I know very little about US sports so I may be way out of line.

Looking at comments on your blog I noticed that Dave has gone for a grand national site. Well I know that the grand national attracts more punters than any other race in the UK but I also know that after the race is run in either late March or early April there will be a massive drop in traffic for grand national key phrases until at the very earliest the next year.

Taking Dave's site as an example would it not be better to open up the niche and target the top UK jump races or even the top flat and jump races? Doing this would generate traffic throughout the year.

For me I would prefer to target a niche that gets steady traffic every month rather than 1 month per year.
