    Default Geo Targeting Landing Page

I am looking to Geo Target one of my landing pages, something I've never done before. I am basically looking to Geo Target a box of text on my homepage.

Can anyone point me into the right direction to instructions on this or a service/product that will help?

I have no clue where to start with Geo Targeting.. Thanks for the help

    Kevin

    Hey Kevin

MaxMind - GeoIP | IP Address Location Technology

GeoIP is a pretty good service, and I believe that they also offer a free solution if you don't want to pay the $50.

It's pretty easy to use - like 4-5 lines in PHP and you are all set..

I used MySimpleAds for geotargeting, which does a bunch of stuff other than just geotargeting. ClipperSoft - mySimpleAds Ad Management . Was really straightforward and easy to use.

It does use the free MaxMind database as PKing mentioned though. MySimpleAds basically does the leg work for you without you having to write your own lines of PHP.

Don't bother buying Maxmind if you are just going to be geotargetting countries, there really isn't a difference with the country version. The city version, from what I'm told, isn't as accurate in the free version but I'm assuming you just need the country version.

OK I am trying out MySimpleAds. Can it only be used on wordpress sites?

I just got it installed to one of my wordpress sites and am trying to figure out everything.

I've only ever used it on static sites, so if you've got it working on WP you can use it on both.

One thing I wanted to mention was that if I used a lot of geotargeting on a page, like in the header, sidebar and within the main content the page could sometimes take some time to load. The problem seemed to be that the remainder of a page wouldn't load until the geotargeted content had been determined and loaded, so if it was in the header then the rest of the page would be held up until it had loaded. I think it can take a short moment to determine where the visitor is from and then deliver the ad.

It may have just been me and the loading time wasn't terrible, but it was a noticeable for me. If you just have 1 instance of geotargeting on a page you probably won't even notice it though. It just might be worth keeping an eye on though just incase.

If you do run in to this problem I found a fairly simple work-around, but that's of course if you do actually see your site slowing down.
