    Default PHPList versus Aweber?

Hello guys, I am looking into e-mail marketing software.

What can you say to me about PHPList and Aweber? First one is open-source, second one paid.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

Good question. I know allot of people use the later.

I have tried to install the open source one to test - but for some reason i could not get it to work properly.

Feed burner also has one no?

I am going to try and install the phplist one again. I am hoping i can import from a old database i have.. yikes!

when it comes to email marketing. Always go with the paid one to run all your lists. You can have endless lists in aweber.

Problems with using free email marketing software or self hosted software.
    1. all the emails doesn't make it to the inbox
    2. your domain can be blacklisted
    3. when moving from free/self hosted to paid email marketing software all of your subscribers must confirm again. you will lose around 70% of your subscribers because most will not get the email or just dont want to confirm their email again.

So by using free email marketing software. You will be losing money and it will cost more in the long run.

AWEBER is very solid. The possibilities and monitoring of your contact info/emails/newsletters is endless. You can create, track and test everything.

I could go into detail...but it would take forever (hundreds of tutorials) and you still could learn more. But the basic setup is a breeze as well...customer support is awesome too.

I couldn't recommend it more than anything else.

I also am an affiliate - sig in my link!

Interesting point there - I've been looking to build up email lists recently, and it's going very slowly.

I don't see the point of paying a monthly fee to somewhere like Aweber when no-one is signing up to my lists. As you say though, there's going to be a point when I have to switch over to a paid solution, and I'm aware that the whole list will need to confirm their email address again, which is going to decimate my list.

So, I'm just curious as to how others have dealt with this issue in the past?

Do you wait until traffic levels reach a certain level before putting a Newsletter form up on the site and then just hope you get enough sign ups to make the monthly fee worth while?

I think you looking at this too short term. When starting out the price seems high but the amount your list will make you far out weight the monthly price tag. Personally I add a newsletter sign up form on day 1 of building the website. I want to catch as many visitors emails as I can.
