    Default CopyScape new procedure!

For about a week copyscape was down not able to perform searches.

Today they are back up and running but there is new procedure..

    From there own words.

    "Search index

You may choose whether your Copyscape Premium searches are performed using the Google or Yahoo! web index.

Please note that if you choose the Google web index, Google requires that Copyscape pass along your IP address to Google as part of the query. There may also be a limit on how many searches you can perform from your IP address. If you are uncomfortable with this, you may use the Yahoo! web index instead.

The Batch Search feature always uses the Yahoo! web index, independent of this setting. "

My question is - will this have any negative effect on our sites? And why would this now be a requirement?

Is using Yahoo search index less effective?

Google will also be setting up video cameras in your bedrooms and bathrooms starting next week. If this makes you uncomfortable, move to another planet.

Ha! me toooo! I was outraged the first time, I yelled at them and told them to get the F outa my neighbors yard (neighbor going through forclosure).. and they ignored me. I threw a rock @ their car, and luckily they ignored me.

I yelled at the men in the yard.. My husband, a cpl neighbors and family members.. told them it was horrible that they just let ppl run around taking pics of their neighbors property.

They told me it was Google

    ..

    Here's what I'm wondering...

I do two things to check articles I am suspicious of.
1: Google random sentances and phrases etc.
    2. Copyscape

If Copyscape is just googling.. is #2 a waste of my cash?

I haven't used Copyscape in years, but as I understand it, they grab text from the document at the URL you provide them and search for it. If they find documents that match all their tests, they report those documents as duplicates.

It was a pretty good match tool when I was using it.

Can you do that yourself? Sure. But automation makes it faster and less likely to produce a false positive.

Nonetheless, they don't seem to take into consideration that neither Google nor Yahoo! indexes the entire Web. In fact, the amount of overlap between the two search engines is estimated to be no more than about 60%. That is, no more than 60% of what you can find between the two search engines is found on both of them.

Hence, they should be searching BOTH indexes.

In fact, they should also be searching Bing's index.

Just a word of warning. Copyscape is having some major issues and their tool should not be trusted. I'm a paying customer and have been complaining for months. Someone finally responded:

Thanks for your message. We're happy to help.

We have checked into this case extensively and it appears to be a very rare case in which a page indexed by the main Google web index is not available through the Google web search API.

In our testing of the new Google API, this occurs very rarely, but this appears to be one of those cases.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

    Thanks again and best regards,

    Rachel
I've checked countless pages that were indexed in Google and no results would come up so their explanation doesn't really work for me. It seems like the only results I get are false-positive's, 5-10 words out of 600-700, that aren't even consecutive.

I've been throwing sites up using content we bought a year or two ago and putting faith in copyscape has only cost me time and money. There are plenty of other tools out there though. I've been using:

    The Plagiarism Checker

as a temporary solution. It seems to work fine.

That sucker is good. I bought an article yesterday, and a few phrases were choppy English, sometimes that just means someone speaks choppy English, other times it means they did a crappy job rewriting someone else work.

I copyscaped it yesterday and it came up fine. I ran it through this tool, and it already found the article I put up yesterday..

Hopefully that makes sense. It wasn't plagiarized, but the tool checks text against the net, so it found the text on my site, because i put it there yesterday. Generally new articles take a week or so to show up.
