agreed these sites will not have the power of a quality branded site. However they can and do rank for exact matches... and if the exact matches convert then hey what can i say other than it depends on the goals of the site.

I think betoneuro2010 has a lot of value in development. Start as soon as you can and add news and updates until and during the tournament aswell as link building. If you can rank well for that term the site should do well.
I agree that the domain itself probably doesn't have much value. Most of the value will be in the development.
Good luck with it. I know you'll enjoy creating it if u decide to develop.
The biggest problem with a euro2012 site is that it is a one tournament squat.
No-one believes that you are the official site, or that the site will be there past the tournament, so while the domain name might rank somewhat better for some keyword searches - the domain does not stand as a long term operation.
I'm not saying that you cannot make it work, or get signups, but it's going to take quite a bit of work - and with a finite end date to the site that work is all "sunk costs" at the end of the tournament.
So right now I would appraise the domain name as around $100 - and it could be a lucrative niche that makes you $x,xxx with work - but it's just the finite end date that prevents spending too much time on it IMO.
