Hello all,
Sometime ago I posted asking about some advice for an online poker league that we were looking to launch. We went ahead and launched it and achieved some moderate sucess. We had our first live final in January of this year and it was well attended and we got some very positive feedback. The second season is well underway and participation is significantly up.
We're (thinking of) changing it around for the next season, following a couple of new opportunites that have come up for us and also the fact that two of the rooms taking part have enquired about running it exclusively at their site (with some additional benefits for doing so)
I have some questions, if anyone would be kind enough to offer any advice.
1. What are your thoughts about limiting such a promotion to one poker room? We've seen reasonable sign-ups across the multiple rooms we are running the league on at the moment and I have obvious concerns about "putting all our eggs in one basket"
2. As part of another deal we're putting together, we're going to have access to a sizeable poker playing market and I'm unsure whether to promote all our offerings to this market or to focus on promoting our league to them. Again, any views on this would be gratefully received.
3. The league we run is currently an individual league i.e. players represent themselves only and win prizes for themselves. The new structure we're considering is focused more on attracting teams of players (although individuals will still be able to enter and win prizes). Any thoughts on the pros and cons of such a decision?
4. To date, we have run each league over a relatively short period of time. We are extending the length of the league for the new structure (in order to maximise the prizes offered). What are your thoughts on a long promotion with better prizes (if we go with our preferred structure there will be around $80,000 of added value) vs a shorter series with lesser prizes.
5. When we first launched the league we considered, but ultimately dismissed, the idea of involving other affiiliates in helping promote the league. We're reviewing that decision for the "re-launch" and are considering whether it is beneficial to encourage a small number of other affiliates to also promote the league. Bearing in mind we will be funding all the prizes, we will have a separate web-site for just this league and affiliates will be able to use their own affiliate links to encourage their players to sign-up to the league, are we cutting into our own market by doing this? Or does it make sense to maximise participation and (potentially) increase the prizes on offer?
6. Any other advice/feedback on running reasonably large scale leagues would be gratefully received.
Thanks all!
