Help/suggestions for a site

I have had London Poker Directory - About The London Poker Directory for a while now - It was my first attempt at being an affiliate and it ranks for almost all terms with regards to playing poker in London as well as many of the actual clubs so gets a fair amount of traffic.

Problem is the traffic just doesn't really click through or convert...I know this is because they are basically looking to play offline so aren't looking for an online room so click throughs will be low.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be really helpful.....maybe I shouldn't promote poker at all on there and more retail brands? Even London travel, hotels etc as I get a lot of non London people going there

Hey Alex, Couple of random thoughts...

Online satellites to the bigger live events like WSOPE / EPT could work out... 'win your seat for just a few pounds at Pokerstars etc'

Not all your visitors will be experts so you might also be able to get some clicks on something like the Full Tilt Academy... t'ips from the pros before you head out to the game tonight' kind of angle here...

You could also contact the casinos, tell them about your site and try to sell advertising space/featured casino positions.

Selling ads to local poker rooms and using online qualifiers to live events as "bait" to get people to play online is really good ideas.

I would personally try a different angle, since it would be much faster for me to implement.





Since your visitors don't yet know that they want to play online poker, we need to do a bit of convincing to help them realize it.

This obviously isn't easy, and I would divide it up into 2 steps:
1. Writing an article that will convince people that online poker is awesome and getting them to sign up at a poker room you recommend them.
2. Figuring out how to get your visitors to read that article.


The article
I would write a basic explanation of how people can make a lot of money by playing online poker. The first couple of lines would be used to tell the reader that he can get a large amount of money from online poker rooms, similar to live casinos offer comps and player reward clubs.

I would then explain how the games are faster, and that you can play more than 1 table at a time. This means that you can earn a 100$ bonus in just a couple of hours, and as a result an online player who are breaking even on his play can actually earn a lot of money.

Then I would recommend a single online poker room for people to start playing at, and maybe even suggesting how much money they should deposit, so there are very few decisions involved for them.

At a later point I would create a video showing how to sign up, deposit, play and finally withdraw at that room.


Getting people to read it
I would add calls to action written specifically to catch the attention of the reader on a specific page.

For example I would try something like "Why online poker is more profitable than playing at The Sportsman Casino" on the page about The Sportsman Casino.
