Default Is Alexa ranking worth anything to us?

    Hey guys,

Our site is getting better and progresses in the Alexa ranking, currently around

    892,000 spot.

Does that mean or give any benefit? We have also a nice PR of 3 and along with

the Alexa ranking, does it worth anything or just a number?

    Thanks guys...

Most affiliates determine the worth of their sites based on income. Alexa and PR are simply "nice to haves".

In other words, I'd rather have a PR2 site with minimal but targeted traffic that converts like crazy earning me x,xxx a month than a site with high traffic, PR5, and earns me xxx a month.

Nah it's not worth anything in the sense that it's not going to boost traffic, pagerank or stuff like that. It's just an indication of how much traffic Alexa thinks your site is getting compared to other sites on the Internet.

I don't mind looking at it when I'm procrastinating for a rough idea of how my site compares to other sites in terms of traffic. I like to think it's okay as a very rough indicator. Others will vehemently disagree that "rough indicator" is a fair description though.

I don't know about "vehemently" but Alexa has always been very hit and miss regarding traffic levels and where that traffic is coming from with regards to my own sites.

So I take the other pieces of information it offers with a very heavy pinch of salt ...

Dosent alexa only count traffic that have a certain thing installed on your browser such as seo tool bar or whatever?

If that is the case, this just means that you have alot of other webmasters visiting your site, so a news site would probably get you good alexa ranking since lots of webmasters is looking for news to rewrite

    EDIT
Alexta toolbar need to be installed for alexa to count you as traffic

Lots of people claim it is meaningless but I disagree. While comparing one site with an Alexa 300,000 to another with Alexa 500,000 may not be a great way to determine which one is more popular - if your site is steadily increasing or decreasing this is a fairly solid method of determining if your traffic and reach is going up or down - though you should be able to see this stuff through your Analytics anyway.

    Generally speaking, imo:

For poker sites under 1,000,000 is an also ran website, pretty minor stuff. 500k-1mm is gaining some traction, has potential. 250k-500k and you are getting somewhere. 100k-250k and you have a pretty solid site. Lots of traffic. Lots of people know about it. 50k-100k and you should be making some serious coin. Sub 50k and the Alexa ranking will lose meaning - everybody will know about your site and you'll be a multi-millionaire.

There are much better places to get information about your site's traffic relative to other sites' traffic than Alexa.

Alexa is a totally meaningless stat.

No disrespect but I can't help but to laugh at this. If any webmaster knew what I know. They could easily get their site alexa rank between 60k - 100k within a week or 2 with very little traffic.

So of course my vote will be Alexa Rank is totally pointless.

PS. I will not teach anyone how to play with their alexa rank.
