Default What to do with this domain?

    Hey peeps,

I've owned Flushdraw(.com) for a while now and am hesitant on letting it go as I love it as a brandable domain and have always thought that one day it would be my main site. However, I've struggled with deciding on what to make it into. I started on putting up a simple poker bonus site a bit ago but never finished it. I didn't really want to make it into another bonus site so please rack your brains and post your thoughts on a) the domain and b) what you think it would be good to be developed into.

I've just got my hands on the .net recently so I'm ready to start working on it and making it into a brand, for whatever that might be.

    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
I think it's a great domain for a new pokerroom. I don't recommend opening one but it could be profitable selling it. I mean if some rooms would invest a few bucks for a nice brandable domain like that they would be taken seriously. So many junk brands out there.
I can also imagine using it for a poker training site. In that area it seems that brandable domains are prefered (deuces cracked, leggo, cardrunners, etc.)

    Hey TrickyPlay.

I thought the same thing about a poker room name. When the thread was up the other day (i think by addz) regarding what you would call a poker room if you had the choice, everyones answer had the word 'poker' in it. I think rooms could do well with a brandable name. There are a few out there like Aced.com etc which is refreshing.
As for a training site, I think I would either need a higher budget than what I have atm or a partner as I am mainly a casual/lower stakes player. Unless the community submitted their own strategy videos.

I think it's a very nice domain for you to have, but it's nothing special.

I personally think a good reason for having 'poker' in your name if you own a poker room is to make you're brand more identifable and reduce the chance of it getting mixed up among everyday phrases.

I really disagree with trickplay's comment about selling to a poker room, because although it's a really nice domain, i doubt anyone building or branding their own poker room is gonna think "i NEED that specific domain".

In conclusion, I think you should hang onto it as it will probably be more valuable to you if you ever want to develop it.

I personally would like to see it developed into an online shop reviewing/selling: poker books/clothes/poker chips or cards etc/ebooks/training sites.

My thought after reading all the posts so far was something like a comic strip. I used to go to plusev.net every few days looking for the latest strip. After a while of long periods of no updates i stopped bothering to visit their site, but when I was in habit I did it regularly.

I guess their site made money selling ads. I think if I was to do something like this I'd build additional content around the strip. In your face reviews, bonus links, banners etc. probably wouldn't work well. I'd start with the strip, and then phase in poker news and gossip building a lot more sticky content to gain regular visitors. Down the road I'd sell ads more at a premium and feed them in on the sub pages.

I love the idea of a comic strip. Is there anything around like that at the moment? Not sure how profitable it would be unless the traffic was high and/or a community was built around it but I'm sure it would be fun to have.

I only said that some rooms would be better off with such a domain then having some crap domain like WinningAces123 or something like that. But you're right. Nobody will say he needs that particular domain.

Very strong brandable poker domain. Could be anything really; skin, portal, training site, bonus site, reviews site, forum - whatever.

Definitely more value in development than in selling it. I assume it gets little natural traffic and probably not a great deal of exact searches - so the value lies in the fact that its a universally understood term, easy to remember and absolutely brandable.

Its better than the domains for 90%+ of poker related websites with very few exceptions (pokernews.com, bluff.com, pokerstrategy.com, poker.com - ya, thats pretty much it...)

Generally speaking poker webmasters and skin owners settle for terrible domains. This one would stand out pretty quickly I think, at least for domain enthusiasts like me.

Unfortunately, though, I don't think the average donk or grinder sees the difference between a domain like leggopoker.com, cardschat.com and a domain like this - so people aren't really making that big of a mistake by choosing some of the (terrible) domains that they do.

    I'd go with a strategy/review site
