Default Video editing software for the Mac

I've been having a play around with creating videos in Screenflow for the Mac.

Can anyone recommend some decent software to edit my footage in though? I know editing software comes with the Mac but it seems really limited (or perhaps I'm just not using it properly!!).

Any other suggestions would be really welcome.

    Thanks,

Is screenflow the same as camtasia only mac version (if so I need to get it). Camtasia has suprisingly good editing software within it so I figure it will be the same, otherwise Final Cut is the best Mac video editing software I've seen.

Yeah, that's the one - I've just downloaded the demo version and had a bit of a play around.

Is Final Cut the editing software that comes with the Mac? Shows how little I've used it ...

Mmm - that sounds about right. I've pulled out most of my hair just trying to move text around on the screen, but it seems that you don't really get that option ...

I didn't find anything perfect in my video related travels a few weeks ago. However, I found this site incredibly useful and so this list should help you: Video Editors (Basic) - Video software and downloads - VideoHelp.com

I didn't really look too much in to editing, which is probably why I didn't find the perfect piece of Mac software. You could always start by trying out the Mac compatible video editors on that page. I'm sure there are a handful of good'uns in there.

Alternatively, you could run VirtualDub using Parallels. Apparently that's the best free video editor ever, but unfortunately it's Windows only.

Final Cut Pro is the best video editor you can get on your Mac, but if you're mostly interested in transitions, captions, watermarks and other simple editing then you're probably better off with a basic editor.

    Thanks,
Uhhh. Screenflow IS editing software, and is the best one for the Mac IMHO for your purpose. If you start getting into FCP that's cool but it is overkill for what you need to do with a massive learning curve.

Camtasia on the Mac is not as full featured as screenflow at this time.

All of the videos I do for Paddy are done in Screenflow, like this one:

Again, steep learning curve with Adobe Premiere Pro and many bells and whistles you will never use.
